BJP will win 2021 Assembly Election with a record number of seats: Himanta

December 26: Inspite of widespread protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, BJP heavyweight leader Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence of hitting a century in the 2021 Assam Assembly election. He was addressing a peace rally in Barpeta on 25 December.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his party will definitely win around 100 seats in the 126 Members Assam Legislative Assembly. He said that the people of Assam are with BJP as they know CAA will not endanger the Assamese language, culture, and identity.

In the last Assembly elections held in 2016, BJP won 61 seats whereas its allies AGP got 14 seats, BPF 12 seats and Independent 1 seat. That means the BJP led coalition government formed the government with a total of 81seats. The opposition Congress got a total of 24 seats, whereas the AIUDF got 14 seats.
