Cachar Administration steps up preparations for peaceful Idd-Uz-Zuha celebration

way2barak, May 20:— In a significant initiative aimed at ensuring a peaceful and harmonious celebration of the ensuing Idd-Uz-Zuha Festival, 2026, the District Administration Cachar on Wednesday convened a coordination meeting at the Old Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar, Silchar under the chairmanship of Additional District Commissioner Jagriti Kalwar, ACS. The meeting brought together officials from various departments, representatives of community organisations and other stakeholders to review preparedness and strengthen coordination ahead of the festival.

At the outset, ADC Jagriti Kalwar welcomed all those present and underlined the importance of collective cooperation and responsible participation from every section of society for maintaining peace, communal harmony and mutual respect during the festive occasion. She appealed to all communities to uphold the spirit of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence while observing the festival in accordance with Government norms and regulations.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read out by Arunabh Choudhury, Assistant Commissioner, Cachar and In-Charge DDIPR, BVR, Silchar, who also stressed the need for maintaining communal amity and adhering to all Government guidelines during the observance of the festival.

During the discussion, the Additional District Commissioner reiterated that all Government norms regarding the ban on sale, transportation and slaughter of cattle, along with the sale of beef, must be strictly followed. The meeting was informed that under the provisions of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act and in the absence of authorised slaughterhouses in the district, slaughtering of cattle remains prohibited in Cachar. Community leaders and members of the public were urged to comply with all directives and instructions issued by the Government from time to time. Representatives of different community organisations assured the District Administration of their full cooperation in ensuring that the festival is observed peacefully while respecting all Government regulations and maintaining communal harmony.

Meanwhile, ADC Jagriti Kalwar directed the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted water and electricity supply during the festive period on May 27 and 28. The Health Department and District Fire & Emergency Services Department have been instructed to remain fully prepared to respond to any emergency situation, while the Excise Department and the District Transport Office will intensify enforcement drives to prevent anti-social activities, drunken driving and traffic violations.

Special emphasis was laid on traffic management around major prayer grounds, particularly the Itkhola Idgah. Devotees have been requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas near the Idgah complex and other places where namaaz will be offered on the festival day. Traffic arrangements will be strengthened to ensure smooth movement of devotees and vehicles. The administration also warned that strict action would be taken against rash driving, over-speeding and riding without helmets. Adequate security arrangements will be made by the Police Department with police personnel to be deployed at various sensitive locations across the district. The meeting was also attended by the Editor and Proprietor of the popular Bengali newspaper Samayik Prasanga, Taimur Raja Choudhury, who appreciated the proactive initiatives undertaken by the District Administration Cachar towards ensuring peaceful celebration of the festival. Officials of Silchar Municipal Corporation and several other departments were also present during the meeting.
