BTAD renamed as ‘Bodoland Territorial Region’ under the 6th schedule of the Constitution

Sept. 28: Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam in a notification issued on Tuesday renamed Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) to Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) with immediate effect under the sixth schedule of the Constitution of India. It needs mention here that this renaming of BTAD was one of the provisions of the Bodo Peace Accord signed on January 27, 2020.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has constituted a four-member committee to include Bodo-majority villages in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and exclude non-Bodo settlements. This committee will oversee the inclusion of Bodo and exclusion of Non-Bodo areas in the BTR. The Commission will submit its recommendation within six months from the date of this notification.
