Cachar dist Youth Congress protests against inter-state travel ban imposed by Mizoram

Sept. 8: Though the Union Government in its Unlock 4 notification specifically stated that there should be any bar on inter-state travel from 7 September, inspite of that people from Barak Valley stranded in Mizoram are not allowed to move out due to corona scare. Citing this move as ‘illegal’, Cachar district Youth Congress on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar wherein they urged upon the Chief Minister to take up the matter with his counterpart in Mizoram.

Later on, while addressing the media, Raha Laskar, General Secretary of Cachar District Youth Congress said, “Obeying the orders of the Union Government, states have now allowed inter-state travel. But Mizoram is the exception. Many inhabitants from Assam are now stranded in Mizoram and also people who are involved in various professions in Mizoram are neither allowed to enter or exit. We have heard that though the Mizoram govt wanted to lift the ban, but ‘Young Mizo Association’ (YMA) has objected to this move and compelled the state govt to continue with travel ban. This has landed people in great difficulties.”

Mr. Laskar went on to say that the Chief Minister of Assam should take up this matter with his counterpart in Mizoram so that the inter-state travel ban is lifted. He also said, “If the travel ban is not lifted by Mizoram, then we would launch a vigorous movement at Lailapur.”
