Court stays election of Atul Bora as President of AGP

Sept. 8: In a latest development, the election of Atul Bora as President of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was stayed by a civil court in Guwahati on Tuesday. It needs mention here that Mr.Bora was elected as the president of the party on 27 August. The Civil Court in Guwahati issued injunction order on 26 August on holding of the general body meeting of AGP on 27 August. ‘Inspite of this, the general body meeting was held in violation of the court order.’

In its order, the Civil Court stated that the general body meeting of AGP held on 27 August, in which Atul Bora was elected as the President “is out and out illegal as it is against the constitution of AGP as well as against the COVID protocol.” As per reports, the party has planned to move the higher court against the verdict of the civil court.
