Cachar administration seized Rs 13 lakh in crackdown drive

way2barak, March 30: With the Assembly elections drawing closer, the District Administration of Cachar has significantly intensified surveillance across all seven constituencies.

Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams have fanned out across the district, carrying out rigorous checks on vehicles and suspicious locations to curb any unlawful activities.

 

Meanwhile ,during routine inspections on key roads, Static Surveillance Teams have seized a considerable amount of unaccounted cash, with the total recovery so far standing at Rs 13,25,900.

Notably, liquor worth Rs 9,45,000 has also been confiscated, in addition to the cash seizures, thereby foiling attempts to influence voters through inducements.

The crackdown has also exposed illegal narcotics movement in the district. Search operations have led to the recovery of 60.3 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs 12 lakh in the illegal market, along with 3.027 grams of ganja.

The Cachar administration remains firm in its resolve to prevent the misuse of money and substances that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

Officials deployed to enforce the Model Code of Conduct have stepped up their presence on the ground, ensuring that norms are strictly followed. Any instance of campaign materials such as banners, flags, or posters displayed on government property, private buildings, walls, or public infrastructure has been promptly removed. Even political slogans found inscribed on public assets have been erased, with necessary action initiated against violations.

Working round the clock, the Flying Squads and surveillance teams are maintaining a vigilant watch on all forms of suspicious movement and activities. The district administration, along with the MCC Cell, remains on high alert to ensure that every guideline is adhered to in letter and spirit, reinforcing its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and impartial election in Cachar.
