Assam University Badminton Club Inaugurates New Building, Hosts Exhibition Match

Way2barak, May 26 : The new building of the Assam University Badminton Club was formally inaugurated on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by university officials, faculty members, staff, students, and distinguished guests. The inauguration was carried out by Prof. M. Tineswari Devi, Director of the Sports Board, who ceremonially cut the ribbon in the presence of Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant.

Among those present on the occasion were Finance Officer Dr. Dhar, faculty members from various departments, non-teaching staff, and students. Representatives from the National Institute of Technology Silchar also attended the event, including Dr. Kedar Nath Das, Dr. Wasim Arif, Dr. Devendra Singh Gurjar, Mr. Umakanta Majhi, and Mr. M. Suraj Singh, Sports Officer.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant emphasized the vital role of sports in the holistic development of students. He highlighted that participation in sports not only promotes physical fitness but also nurtures discipline, teamwork, leadership, and mental well-being. He expressed hope that the new facility would encourage greater participation in badminton and contribute to fostering a vibrant sporting culture on the university campus.

Prof. M. Tineswari Devi, Director of the Sports Board, also spoke on the occasion and underlined the university’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and providing students with opportunities to excel in both academics and athletics. The welcome address was delivered by the President of the Assam University Badminton Club, Dr. Lalzo S. Thangjam, who thanked the university administration and all stakeholders for their support in establishing the new facility. Vote of thanks given by General Secretary K Anand Kumar Singh.

Following the inaugural programme, an exhibition badminton match was organized at the university’s Indoor Stadium, drawing enthusiastic participation and applause from the audience. The event reflected the growing enthusiasm for sports at Assam University and marked a significant milestone in the development of its sporting infrastructure.
