Cachar Cancer Hospital Launches “Yogic Wellness” Program with Niramaya

Pranayama Workshop conducted at Nagatilla Gref Campus

Way2barak, May 25 : In an effort to help individuals combat stress and anxiety, Cachar Cancer Hospital in Silchar has launched a “Yogic Wellness” program in collaboration with Niramaya – School of Yoga Education. The initiative was officially inaugurated by the hospital’s director and Padma Shri awardee, Dr. Ravi Kannan.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Kannan emphasized that healthcare professionals and doctors constantly operate under immense pressure while caring for patients. To maintain the highest standards of care, he stressed that medical workers must first ensure their own physical and mental well-being, which can be effectively achieved through the regular practice of pranayama, meditation, and various yoga postures. Dr. Kannan further suggested that patients and their family members should also adopt these practices, noting that the families of ailing individuals often undergo immense emotional distress, and proper yoga training could offer them significant relief.

This wellness program, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to benefit patients, their families, and healthcare staff alike. The inaugural event was attended by Dr. Kannan, administrative officer Debabrata Dutta, and numerous healthcare workers, while Yogacharya Rahul and director Satakshi Bhattacharya represented Niramaya as the primary resource persons. A memento of the Yoga Chetana Mahotsav was also presented to Dr. Kannan during the program.

In a related development on Sunday, Niramaya – School of Yoga Education organized a specialized workshop on subtle exercises and meditation at the Nagatila 510 SS/TC (GREF) campus under the Border Roads Project Pushpak. The workshop, which was part of the ongoing Yoga Chetana Mahotsav, saw active participation from military officers, personnel, women, and school children. Highlighting the impact of the session, Commanding Officer Colonel Amit Agarwal stated that regular collaborations with Niramaya and the Institute for Yoga Education Research have been highly beneficial for the jawans.

He remarked that the jawans have experienced noticeable improvements in their well-being, leading to growing enthusiasm and increased attendance in these sessions. Colonel Agarwal added that more such wellness programs are being planned for the camp in the near future. To mark the occasion, the 510 SS/TC (GREF) authorities honored Niramaya – School of Yoga Education with a Project Pushpak memento.
