Lumpy skin disease: Animal camps held in Hailakandi district

July 15: in view of detection of lumpy skin disease among cattle and other animals, the District Veterinary authorities have been conducting animal health camps across the district. District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, RA Laskar said a health camp was held on Wednesday at Ratanpur state veterinary dispensary compound where 250 animals, including cattle, goats and buffaloes were treated. Medicines free of cost were also distributed.

Another camp was organised at Kapnarpar where 298 animals were provided treatment and medicines distributed. A few days ago, the Veterinary authorities conducted an animal health camp at Matijuri Paikan in which a total of 220 animals were treated along with distribution of medicines free of cost.

Laskar disclosed that there has been no death of animals due to lumpy skin ailments. Necessary preventive measures have been taken to contain the disease from spreading further, he added. It may be mentioned that the district did not record a single death owing to African swine fever owing to a slew of initiatives taken by the District Veterinary authorities, including vaccination and awareness programmes.
