Miscreants burnt lone woman minister’s official residence in Manipur
way2barak, June 14 : In a fresh incident of violence, miscreants burnt the official residence of Manipur Industry Minister Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal West district’s Lamphel area late on Wednesday evening, officials said.
Officials said that Kipgen was not at the home when miscreants burned down the official bungalow of the minister.
Security forces led by senior officials have rushed to the areas and launched a search operation to nab the miscreants.
Kipgen, who was elected to the state assembly in the last year’s assembly elections from the tribal dominated Kangpokpi assembly seat, is the only woman minister in the BJP led 12-member council of ministry headed by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Earlier, houses of several ministers and MLAs including PWD Minister Konthoujam Govindas were burned down by the miscreants in different areas of the state.
Meanwhile, at least 11 people were killed and 23 others injured when suspected militants attacked the Khamelock village in Manipur’s Imphal East district late on Tuesday night.
Officials said the death toll is likely to increase as several of the injured are said to be critical.
