জয়ন্ত বিষ্ণু নারলিকারের ওপর তিনদিনের আলোচনা সভা শুরু আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১৫ সেপ্টেম্বর : বিশিষ্ট জ্যোতির্পদার্থবিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক জয়ন্ত বিষ্ণু নারলিকারের জীবন ও বিজ্ঞান সাধনার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানাতে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগে সোমবার থেকে শুরু হল তিনদিনের এক আলোচনা সভা। বেলা এগারোটায় বিভাগীয় কনফারেন্স হলে প্রদীপ জ্বালিয়ে “জয়ন্ত বিষ্ণু নারলিকার : জীবন ও বিজ্ঞান” শীর্ষক এই আলোচনা সভার সূচনা করা হয়। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন প্রখ্যাত বিজ্ঞানী ও পুনের ইন্টার-ইউনিভার্সিটি সেন্টার ফর অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি অ্যান্ড অ্যাস্ট্রোফিজিক্স (আয়ুকা)-এর প্রাক্তন অধিকর্তা অধ্যাপক নরেশ দধিচ এবং অধ্যাপক অজিত কেমভাভি। এছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন, অ্যালবার্ট আইনস্টাইন স্কুল অব ফিজিক্যাল সায়েন্সেসের ডিন অধ্যাপক করবী দত্ত চৌধুরী এবং পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস প্রমুখ।

স্বাগত ভাষণে অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস ২০০৮ সালের ২৯ জানুয়ারি অধ্যাপক নারলিকারের আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ঐতিহাসিক সফরের কথা স্মরণ করেন। সেই সময় তিনি ইসরোর প্রাক্তন চেয়ারম্যান কে. কস্তুরীরঙ্গনের সঙ্গে বর্তমান পদার্থবিজ্ঞান ভবনটির উদ্বোধন করেন এবং ভাষণও দেন।

অধ্যাপক করবী দত্ত চৌধুরী এধরনের আলোচনা সভা আয়োজনের প্রশংসা করে বলেন, এটি বিভাগের গবেষণার সংস্কৃতিকে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করবে। ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক অশোক সেন আয়ুকা-এর সঙ্গে তাঁর দীর্ঘদিনের সম্পর্কের কথা তুলে ধরেন এবং পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের জ্যোতির্পদার্থবিজ্ঞানের গবেষণায় সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণে সন্তোষ প্রকাশ করেন। অনুষ্ঠানের সঞ্চালনা করেন গবেষক সঞ্চালী নাথ মজুমদার এবং ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন অধ্যাপক অত্রি দেশমুখ্য।

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানের পর প্রথম কারিগরি অধিবেশন শুরু হয়। এতে অধ্যাপক অজিত কেমভাভি এবং অধ্যাপক নরেশ দধিচ অধ্যাপক নারলিকারের জীবন, বৈজ্ঞানিক যাত্রা এবং জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানে তাঁর অসাধারণ অবদান নিয়ে বক্তৃতা দেন। এরপর অধ্যাপক দেশমুখ্যও বক্তৃতা দেন। বিকেলে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় গবেষণাপত্র উপস্থাপনা পর্ব, যেখানে গবেষকরা তাঁদের প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন। এই আলোচনা সভার অংশ হিসেবে মঙ্গলবার বেলা আড়াইটে নাগাদ বিপিন চন্দ্র পাল মিলনায়তনে আমন্ত্রিত বক্তারা বিশেষ বক্তৃতা  দেবেন।

Way2barak, September 15 : A three-day symposium on “Jayant Vishnu Narlikar: His Life and Science” commenced today at 11 a.m. in the Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar. The event is being organized to celebrate the life and contributions of the eminent astrophysicist Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, whose pioneering works have inspired generations of scientists and students alike.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by senior scientists and former Directors of IUCAA, Pune Prof. Naresh Dadhich and Prof. Ajit Kembhavi. Among other dignitaries present were Prof. Asoke Kumar Sen, Incharge Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhury, Dean of the Albert Einstein School of Physical Sciences and Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Head of the Department of Physics.

The program began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the distinguished guests. In his welcome address, Prof. Das fondly recalled the historic visit of Prof. Narlikar to the Department of Physics on January 29, 2008, when he inaugurated the present Physics building in the company of Prof. K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman of ISRO. Prof. Narlikar had also delivered a lecture during that occasion. Prof. Das further highlighted the department’s rich legacy, noting that research in Astronomy and Astrophysics at AUS began more than 25 years ago.

Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhury, in her address, praised the initiative of organizing such a symposium, emphasizing that it would significantly enrich the research culture of the department. Prof. Asoke Sen shared his long association with IUCAA and expressed satisfaction at the active involvement of the department in front-line astrophysics research. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Atri Deshamukhya, while the proceedings were anchored by research scholar Ms. Sanchali Nath Mazumdar.

The first technical session featured illuminating lectures by Prof. Ajit Kembhavi and Prof. Naresh Dadhich, who spoke on the life, scientific journey, and remarkable contributions of Prof. Narlikar to the field of astronomy. This was followed by a lecture from Prof. Deshamukhya. In the afternoon, technical sessions were held, providing a platform for researchers to present their papers. As part of the symposium, a special talk will be delivered by the invited speakers tomorrow at 2:30 pm in the Bipin Chandra Pal Milanayatan.
