December 3: Only twelve days are left for making correction in the items in Correction Form -1 for those whose names etc. have been wrongly spelt in the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on 30 July 2018. In this regard it was notified by Prateek Hajela, State NRC Coordinator that both online and offline facilities would be made available from 8th November, 2018 (SPMU/NRC/Dist-Co-Equip/68/2015/Part5/277-A, dated-3rd November, 2018) for submitting Correction Form-1.
However, though the Correction Form-1 has been made available offline in the concerned NRC Seva Kendras but till today the online facility has not been made available. The issue has become a major concern for those staying in different parts of the country and abroad. They have become more tensed because only twelve days are left for availing this facility as the last date for submission of Correction Form is 15 December 2018.
In this regard, a letter was sent to Registrar General of India (RGI) on Monday, seeking his immediate intervention. The letter signed by Advocate Dharmananda Deb, Convenor of Hindu Legal Cell, Assam Pradesh Committee quoted the letter SPMU/NRC/Dist-Co-Equip/68/2015/Part5/277-A, dated-3rd November, 2018 issued by Prateek Hajela and informed the RGI that till date “the online facility for filling up Correction Form-1 has not been started for the public although only about twelve(12) days remain as the closing date is 15th December,2018. As such, Advocate Deb urged upon the RGI to take immediate steps in this regard. A copy of the same letter was also sent to the State Coordinator of NRC, Assam.
Speaking to way2barak, Dharmananda Deb expressed concern that in the absence of provision of online application for Correction, many persons residing in far away places will be in deep trouble. He said “There being no way out, we became bound to seek the immediate intervention of the RGI.”
