Another 7 tests +ve in Cachar on Thursday, day’s total 40

July 9: The number of novel coronavirus cases in Cachar on Thursday were increasing by leaps and bounds. Initially, 3 positive cases were reported on 9 July, but later during the day, 30 more positive cases were reported, which took the day’s tally to 33. However, at around 8.30 PM on Thursday, another 7 fresh cases were reported from across the district, which took the grand tally of the district on Thursday to 40.

The seven fresh cases are: Amol Das (27) from Rongpur Pt-IV, AngargurDas Para who does not have any travel history and was detected through Assam Targeted Surveillance Program (ATSP). He is asymptomatic. 35 years old Flora Hrangchal from Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). She is a symptomatic patient and is working in ENT/Eye ward of SMCH.

The others are Soknul Haque Laskar (35) from Bagpur Pt-1 and was categorised as pre-operative. There is no travel history and the patient is asymptomatic. Jabir Hussain (31) from Suktola in Dholai also tested positive on Thursday and is asymptomatic. He came from Bangalore. Three more positive patients, Ebadul islam (31) from Nutan Kanchanpur, Azhar Hussain (21) from Motinagar and Aminul Haque (19) from Suktola also came to Cachar from Bangalore. These three patients are also asymptomatic.

District Media Expert Sumon Choudhury informed that they are exploring more places to convert into COVID hospitals. S.M. Dev Civil Hospital had 50 beds in the COVID ward, out of which, 40 patients have already been admitted. So the health department is now contemplating to convert Palonghat Model Hospital as COVID hospital. Mr. Choudhury informed that around 80 to 85 patients can be accommodated at Palonghat Model Hospital

As per sources, there are probability of more positive cases, which may be reported later in the night.
