Chief Minister’s FIFA Fan Park opens in Silchar

The FAN PARK  was Jointly organised by the the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and the District Administration, Cachar.

The inaugural programme drew an enthusiastic gathering of football fans, sports enthusiasts, students and local residents.The atmosphere was festive as spectators welcomed an initiative that brings the World Cup experience closer to the people of Barak Valley.

The live screening of the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final between France and Morocco proved to be the biggest attraction of the evening with the DSA Stadium witnessing a housefull turnout.

Hundreds of football enthusiasts packed the Fan Park to cheer their favourite teams, creating an electrifying atmosphere that mirrored the excitement of a stadium on match day.

Meanwhile, inaugurating the Fan Park, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Kanad Purkayastha congratulated the organisers for creating a platform that allows people from all walks of life to enjoy the global football spectacle together. He said the initiative would strengthen the spirit of community participation while celebrating one of the world’s most followed sporting events.

Describing sports as a powerful instrument for character building, the MP said games instil discipline, teamwork, determination and mutual respect. Football, he observed, transcends barriers of language, religion, nationality and geography bringing millions of people together through a shared passion.

Calling upon the younger generation to draw inspiration from the FIFA World Cup, Purkayastha said the values demonstrated on the field commitment, perseverance and collective effort are equally important for achieving success in life. He encouraged youth to imbibe these qualities while pursuing their academic, professional and personal goals.

It is important to note that The District Administration has put in place comprehensive arrangements to ensure a safe, comfortable and enjoyable viewing experience throughout the tournament. Adequate seating, proper illumination, security deployment and crowd-management measures have been made at the venue to facilitate smooth public participation in the screenings.

Among those present on the occasion were President of Cachar Zilla Parishad Kankan Narayan Sikdar, Additional District Commissioner, Cachar, Devid Kumar Borah,  Assistant Commissioner, Cachar, Arunabh Choudhury, President of District Sports Association, Silchar, Shibabrata Dutta, Assistant Nazir and Secretary of Sadou Asom Zilla Prashasan Karmachari Sangha, Cachar District Unit, Bikash Dutta, besides senior officials, representatives of sports organisations and a large gathering of football enthusiasts.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Chief Minister’s FIFA Fan Park will remain open throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026, providing residents of Barak Valley with a unique opportunity to witness every thrilling moment of the tournament in a lively, secure and family-friendly community atmosphere.
