Workshop at Assam University Calls for Ending Gender-Based Discrimination
লিঙ্গভিত্তিক বৈষম্য দূর করার বার্তা আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কর্মশালায়

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২২ জুলাই : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অভ্যন্তরীণ অভিযোগ কমিটি (আইসিসি) ও মালব্য মিশন টিচার ট্রেনিং সেন্টার (এমএমটিটিসি)-এর যৌথ উদ্যোগে ছদিনের কর্মশালা সোমবার থেকে শুরু হয়েছে। ‘লিঙ্গ-সংবেদনশীলতা, পশ আইন ও মহিলা ক্ষমতায়ন’ শীর্ষক এই কর্মশালার আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ সহ অন্য বিশিষ্টজনেরা।

উপাচার্যের পৌরোহিত্যে আয়োজিত উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মধ্যপ্রদেশের ড. হরিসিংহ গৌর কেন্দ্রীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক নীলিমা গুপ্ত। ছিলেন আইসিসি-র প্রিসাইডিং অফিসার অধ্যাপক করবী দত্ত চৌধুরী, এমএমটিটিসি-র ডিরেক্টর অধ্যাপক আর বালাকৃষ্ণন, ডেপুটি ডিরেক্টর অধ্যাপক অজয় কুমার সিং, ভারপ্রাপ্ত নিবন্ধক জয়ন্ত ভট্টাচার্য প্রমুখ।

স্বাগত ভাষণে অধ্যাপক করবী দত্ত চৌধুরী বলেন, এই কর্মশালার মূল লক্ষ্য এমন একটি কর্মপরিবেশ গড়ে তোলা, যেখানে নিরাপত্তা, মর্যাদা ও পেশাগত সমতা নিশ্চিত হবে এবং মহিলারা আত্মবিশ্বাস ও সম্মানের সঙ্গে কাজ করতে পারবেন। তিনি মহিলাদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণ, আত্মনির্ভরশীলতা এবং নেতৃত্বের বিকাশের ওপরও গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন।

উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পান্ত তাঁর বক্তব্যে কর্মক্ষেত্রে মহিলাদের যৌন হয়রানি (প্রতিরোধ, নিষেধাজ্ঞা ও প্রতিকার) আইন, ২০১৩ সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর জোর দেন। তিনি কর্মীদের এই আইনের বিভিন্ন বিধান সম্পর্কে অবহিত হওয়ার আহ্বান জানান এবং যৌন হয়রানির সংজ্ঞা ও কর্মক্ষেত্রে অগ্রহণযোগ্য আচরণের বিভিন্ন দিক ব্যাখ্যা করেন। একই সঙ্গে তিনি মর্যাদা, পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধা ও বিশ্বাসের ভিত্তিতে একটি সুস্থ কর্মসংস্কৃতি গড়ে তোলার আহ্বান জানান।

প্রধান অতিথি অধ্যাপক নীলিমা গুপ্ত মহিলাদের সাংবিধানিক অধিকার ও প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক সহায়তা ব্যবস্থা সম্পর্কে সচেতন করার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন। তিনি লিঙ্গসমতা প্রতিষ্ঠা, মহিলা-পুরুষ নির্বিশেষে সমান সুযোগ নিশ্চিত করা এবং সমাজে প্রচলিত লিঙ্গভিত্তিক ধ্যানধারণা ও অবচেতন পক্ষপাত দূর করার আহ্বান জানান।

প্রসঙ্গত, এই কর্মশালা চলবে আগামী শুক্রবার অবধি। দ্বিতীয় দিন সংশ্লিষ্ট বিষয়ের ওপর বক্তব্য রাখেন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ ও রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক মানবেন্দ্র দত্তচৌধুরী। তৃতীয় দিন অর্থাৎ বুধবার বক্তাদের মধ্যে ছিলেন কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক শান্তা দত্ত দে ও আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক দিব্যজ্যোতি ভট্টাচার্য।

Way2barak, July 22 : A six-day workshop on “Gender Sensitisation, POSH Act and Women Empowerment”, jointly organised by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) of Assam University, commenced on Monday. The inaugural session was formally inaugurated by Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, along with other distinguished dignitaries.

The inaugural programme, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, was attended by Prof. Neelima Gupta, former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University, Madhya Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included ICC Presiding Officer Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhury, MMTTC Director Prof. R. Balakrishnan, Deputy Director Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, and Officer-in-Charge Registrar Jayanta Bhattacharjee, among others.

Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Karabi Dutta Choudhury said that the primary objective of the workshop is to foster a workplace environment that ensures safety, dignity and professional equality, enabling women to work with confidence and respect. She also stressed the importance of women’s active participation, self-reliance and leadership development.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant emphasised the need to create greater awareness about the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. He urged all employees to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Act and explained the legal definition of sexual harassment as well as various forms of unacceptable workplace behaviour. He also called for building a healthy work culture founded on dignity, mutual respect and trust.

Chief Guest Prof. Neelima Gupta highlighted the importance of creating awareness about women’s constitutional rights and the institutional mechanisms available for their protection. She advocated gender equality, equal opportunities for all irrespective of gender, and the elimination of gender stereotypes and unconscious biases that continue to prevail in society.

The workshop will continue until Friday. On the second day, technical sessions were addressed by Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant and Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University. On the third day (Wednesday), the speakers included Prof. Shanta Dutta De, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, and Prof. Dibyajyoti Bhattacharjee of Assam University.
