Typo error! Republic TV creates hashtag ‘Republic with Taliban’, later deletes it after backlash

Aug. 22: Since the occupation of Kabul by the Taliban on 15 August, people all round the world has expressed their hatred for the Taliban for unleashing a reign of terror. However, quite surprisingly, many were even found to extend support to the Taliban. On 21 August, 14 persons in Assam were arrested by the police for making pro-Taliban posts in social media.

When such is the state of affairs, a tweet by Republic TV raised the eyebrows of the people of India. At 4.14 PM on 21 August, 2021, Republic TV published a tweet from its official handle with a hastag ‘Republic with Taliban’. Very soon, the tweet became viral and invite severe criticisms from the netizens. The  “#RepublicWithTaliban”  continued to trend on Twitter. Republic TV and its editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami began to be trolled by the social media users. Very soon, the channel deleted the tweet from its twitter handle. However, prior to that, people grabbed the screenshot of the tweet and made it viral in social media platforms. 

A twitterati wrote, ““First they write #RepublicWithTaliban. Then they say it’s a typo and they meant to write #RepublicWithAfghans. What a bunch of bigots they are! And idiots too!” Another user said “Please take action against the news channel who motivate crores of people of india to support Taliban by hastag #RepublicWithTaliban. Please make inquiry against them to find truth.” ““Republic ‘ With Taliban’ ?? Arnab Goswami’s @republic tv announces support to Taliban. SHAME! Taliban supporters in India. Arnab should be arrested for standing with terror!st organisation,” wrote another twitter user.
