Karimganj Police seizes 40,000 bottles of cough syrup worth ₹2 cr concealed in fruit cartons

Aug. 22: Since the last 3 months, the Assam Police has waged a war against drugs. On Sunday, police forces inflicted a major blow to the narcotics syndicate. During the day, Karimganj Police in a major haul seized 40,000 bottles of cough syrup at Assam Tripura border by alert staff of Churaibari WP. The drugs was carefully concealed under stacks of fruits. The seized narcotics have a market value of approx 2 crores.

Appreciating the move of Karimganj Police, State Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “#AssamAgainstDrugs. Our police is hawk-eyed! On sniffing foul play, @assampolice seized a massive haul of 40,000 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, packed in 250 cartons & concealed under 100 cartons of fruits, in a truck at Karimganj, on way to another state.@karimganjpolice Thumbs up.” Replying to the Chief Minister, Karimganj Police tweeted, “Thank you for your words of encouragement Sir. We are on maximum alertness to prevent anyone from using Assam as a transit for narcotics.”
