BJP meets SP Karimganj, gives written complaint against OC Badarpur

Aug 22: A delegation led by Subrata Bhattacharjee, BJP district President met Padmanabh Baruah, Police Super of Karimganj on Saturday and handed over to him a memorandum for enquiry and action against Dipak Kr. Saikia, O.C., Badarpur P.S., Nabajit Chutia Bora, i.c. Malua P.I.C.P. , Azhar Uddin Laskar, U.B. Constable, Halim Uddin, Home Guard & others.

In the written complaint, BJP leaders accused that Ashok Kumar Das of LA.-5 Badarpur Constituency who happens to be the General Secretary of S.C. Morcha, B.J.P. Karimganj District and a renowned person of Badarpur Constituency was called over telephone by Nabajit Chutia Bora, i.c. Malua P.I.CP on 17 August and the former to meet him. It was further alleged that as soon as Ashok Kumar Das went to meet the police officer Bora, he was arrested and brought to Badarpur Police Station.

The complaint letter then stated, “There at Badarpur Police Station, Dipak Kr. Saikia, O.C., Badarpur P.S., Nabajit Chutia Bora, i.c. Malua P.I.C.P. , Azhar Uddin Laskar, U.B. Constable, Halim Uddin, Home Guard & others put Ashok Kumar Das inside the lock up without citing any proper legitimate reason and tortured him brutally.” It was also alleged that the police personnel at Badarpur PS tortured Mr Ashok Das both physically and mentally. He was even denied a glass of water and the policemen even called him names alleging ‘Ashok Das to belong to lower caste.’

The delegation informed the Police Super of Karimganj that this incident has created an atmosphere of anger and unrest against the police among the people of Badarpur. The BJP leaders demanded proper enquiry into the matter and urged for punishing the accused policemen. On Saturday around hundred of BJP leaders and workers went to give the memorandum to SP Karimganj. The memorandum was signed by Subrata Bhattacharjee, BJP district President, Karimganj, Biswaroop Bhattacharjee, ex-Dist President of Karimganj BJP and Mission Ranjan Das, ex-MLA and Chairman, AIDC.

Meanwhile, as per sources, SP Karimganj was contacted in this regard even from the office of the Chief Minister of Assam. Further 10 policemen of Badarpur PS were also transferred.
