বেহাল শিলচর-আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সড়ক, চরম দুর্ভোগে ছাত্র-শিক্ষক ও স্থানীয়রা

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২০ মে : শিলচর থেকে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গামী সড়কের শিলকুড়ি এলাকা ভয়ংকর ভাবে বেহাল হয়ে পড়েছে। বিশেষ করে শিলকুড়ি ডাকঘরের সামনে থেকে শিলকুড়ি ক্যাম্প পর্যন্ত বিশাল বিশাল গর্তের সমাহারে নিত্যযাত্রীদের যাতায়াত দুর্বিষহ হয়ে পড়েছে। এনিয়ে তীব্র ক্ষোভ ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে ছাত্র-শিক্ষক, নিত্যযাত্রী এবং স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের মধ্যে।

দীর্ঘদিন ধরে রাস্তার বিভিন্ন অংশে বড় বড় গর্ত সৃষ্টি হওয়ায় যাতায়াত কার্যত বিপজ্জনক হয়ে উঠেছে। বৃষ্টির জলে গর্তগুলি কাদাজলে ভরে যাওয়ায় পরিস্থিতি আরও ভয়াবহ আকার ধারণ করেছে। প্রতিদিন হাজার হাজার ছাত্রছাত্রী, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক-কর্মচারী এবং সাধারণ মানুষ এই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সড়ক ব্যবহার করেন। কিন্তু রাস্তার করুণ অবস্থার কারণে যানবাহন চলাচলে মারাত্মক সমস্যা দেখা দিচ্ছে। ছোট গাড়ি থেকে শুরু করে অটোরিকশা ও বাইক চালকদের নিত্যদিন দুর্ঘটনার আশঙ্কা নিয়ে চলাচল করতে হচ্ছে। ইতিমধ্যেই একাধিক ছোটখাটো দুর্ঘটনার খবরও সামনে এসেছে বলে স্থানীয়দের ভাষ্য।

স্থানীয় বাসিন্দাদের অভিযোগ, দীর্ঘদিন ধরে রাস্তার সংস্কারের দাবি জানানো হলেও প্রশাসনের পক্ষ থেকে কার্যকর কোনও পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হয়নি। বর্ষাকালে পরিস্থিতি আরও জটিল হয়ে পড়ে। কাদামাখা গর্ত এড়িয়ে চলতে গিয়ে প্রায়শই যানজটের সৃষ্টি হচ্ছে এবং যাত্রীদের চরম ভোগান্তির শিকার হতে হচ্ছে।সচেতন মহল ও সাধারণ মানুষ অবিলম্বে এই সড়কের মেরামতি ও রক্ষণাবেক্ষণের দাবি জানিয়েছেন। তাঁদের বক্তব্য, আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এই অঞ্চলের অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান এবং এই সড়কটি হাজারো মানুষের দৈনন্দিন জীবনের সঙ্গে ওতপ্রোতভাবে জড়িত। তাছাড়া প্রায় প্রতিদিনই কোনও না কোনও সেমিনার কিংবা আলোচনাচক্র আয়োজিত হচ্ছে এই কেন্দ্রীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে এবং এতে অংশ নিতে এখানে আসছেন দেশ-বিদেশের বিশিষ্টজনেরা। তাই নিরাপদ ও চলাচলযোগ্য সড়ক নিশ্চিত করা অবশ্যই জেলা প্রশাসনের দায়িত্ব।

এলাকাবাসী সহ নিত্যযাত্রী পড়ুয়াদের আশা, সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষ দ্রুত বিষয়টি গুরুত্ব সহকারে বিবেচনা করে জরুরি ভিত্তিতে রাস্তা সংস্কারের কাজ শুরু করবেন। এদিকে এই সড়ক দিয়েই আইরংমারায় নিজের বাসভবনে নিয়মিত যাতায়াত করছেন শিলচরের সাংসদ পরিমল শুক্লবৈদ্য। অথচ সড়কের এই ভয়ংকর পরিস্থিতি কীভাবে তাঁর নজর এড়িয়ে যাচ্ছে, তাও সাধারণ জনগণ সহ পড়ুয়াদের বোধগম্য হচ্ছে না। এলাকার নবনির্বাচিত বিধায়ক সহ অন্য জনপ্রতিনিধিদের এব্যাপারে অবিলম্বে কার্যকর ভূমিকা গ্রহণের অনুরোধ জানানো হয়েছে। অন্যথায় পড়ুয়াদের পক্ষ থেকে বৃহত্তর আন্দোলন গড়ে তোলারও হুমকি দেওয়া হয়েছে।

Way2barak, May 20 : The condition of the road connecting Silchar to Assam University has deteriorated alarmingly, particularly in the Silcoorie area. From in front of the Silcoorie Post Office to the Silcoorie Camp area, the road has become riddled with massive potholes, making daily commuting extremely difficult for thousands of people. The issue has sparked widespread resentment among students, teachers, regular commuters and local residents.

Large potholes have developed across several stretches of the road for a long time, turning travel on the route increasingly dangerous. With rainwater filling the potholes and creating muddy pools, the situation has worsened further during the monsoon season. Every day, thousands of students, university faculty members, employees and ordinary citizens depend on this important road. However, the pathetic condition of the road is causing severe disruption to vehicular movement.

Drivers of small vehicles, auto-rickshaws and motorcycles are being forced to commute under constant fear of accidents. According to local residents, several minor accidents have already occurred due to the damaged road condition. Residents alleged that despite repeated demands for repair and maintenance work, the administration has failed to take any effective measures. During the rainy season, the problem becomes even more serious. Vehicles attempting to avoid the muddy potholes often lead to traffic congestion, causing immense inconvenience to commuters.

Concerned citizens and members of the public have demanded immediate repair and proper maintenance of the road. They pointed out that Assam University is one of the most important educational institutions in the region and the road is closely linked to the daily lives of thousands of people. Moreover, seminars and academic discussions are held almost every day at the central university, attracting distinguished guests from across the country and abroad. Therefore, ensuring a safe and motorable road is undoubtedly the responsibility of the district administration.

Local residents and students hope that the concerned authorities will take the matter seriously and begin urgent repair work at the earliest. Meanwhile, the people have also questioned how the terrible condition of the road has escaped the attention of Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, who reportedly uses the same route regularly while travelling to his residence in Irongmara.

The public has urged the newly elected MLA of the area and other public representatives to take immediate and effective steps regarding the issue. Otherwise, students have warned of launching a larger movement in protest against the continued negligence.
