Flood in Cachar: 2 dead, 3 missing; 2,623 people took shelter in 20 relief camps in the district

May 16: As torrential rainfall continues in Cachar, the flood situation in the district is gradually becoming grim.  Meanwhile, due to the floods, till now, two persons have lost their lives in Cachar district. Apart from this, three more are traceless. Among the two deceased, 1 is from Borkhola, while the other is from Lakhipur. Both NDRF and SDRF have been set to task to find out the three persons (2 from Borkhola, 1 from Katigorah) who were missing.

Further, on Monday, a total of 77 flood affected persons were rescued by NDRF, SDRF, BSF and Assam Rifles. Till now, 51,357 persons from 155 revenue villages have become the victims of flood in Cachar district. A total of 20 relief camps were opened in Cachar, wherein 2,623 flood affected people have taken shelter. Moreover, 1,187 hectare cultivable land was damaged due to flood. Also, 25,689 domesticated animals were also affected by flood.

Medical teams were attending those who had taken refuge in the various relief camps of the district.Along with this, relief materials were also provided to these flood victims. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli has on Monday also visited several areas at Katigorah, Borkhola and Silchar Sadar Circle.
