Arun Kumar Chanda Park Inaugurated as Clean Air Park

way2barak, March 12:  Arun Kumar Chanda Park was officially inaugurated as a Clean Air Park today under the Clean Air Citizens Drive Campaign, an initiative aligned with the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The programme was organized by Silchar Municipal Corporation in collaboration with TOWASO Pvt. Ltd.

 

The inauguration ceremony was graciously conducted by the Commissioner of Silchar Municipal Corporation, Srishti Singh, IAS, who inaugurated the park by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. The event marked a meaningful step toward promoting environmental awareness and creating cleaner, healthier public spaces for the citizens of Silchar.

Following the inauguration, Commissioner Srishti Singh, IAS, along with dignitaries and Secretary of the Murti Sanrakshan o Smritiraksha Committee Prabir Roy Choudhury and Assistant Secretary Uttam Kumar Saha, paid floral tribute at the statue of Arun Kumar Chanda inside the park, expressing their respect and remembrance for his valuable contributions to society.

 

During the visit, the Commissioner also reviewed the developments carried out in the park as part of the campaign. A Miyawaki Plantation area has been created in the park through a plantation drive organized on 14 February 2026, where students from various schools and colleges across Silchar actively participated. As part of the initiative, eco-friendly seating arrangements and dustbins were constructed using Eco-Bricks, promoting sustainable waste management and environmental responsibility.

 

During the programme, Kshitiiz Raj from TOWASO Pvt. Ltd. delivered a brief presentation on the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and highlighted the various activities conducted over the last two months under the Clean Air Citizens Drive 2026. Commissioner Srishti Singh also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and collective community participation in achieving the goals of cleaner air and sustainable urban development.

 

Prabir Roy Choudhury and Uttam Kumar Saha also shared their thoughts about the life and contributions of Arun Kumar Chanda, remembering his dedication toward public service and community welfare.

 

The programme was attended by several dignitaries and officials, including representatives from the Regional Office of the Assam Pollution Control Board, Executive Officers, Urban Technical Officers, CPO, and other officials from the Silchar Municipal Corporation, whose presence reflected the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing air pollution and environmental challenges.

 

Following the inauguration ceremony, a Certificate Distribution Programme was organized to recognize the contributions of participants and volunteers involved in the Clean Air Citizens Drive. Participation and appreciation certificates were distributed to individuals who actively took part in the Jam Street Clean Fest and Cyclothon events, which were earlier organized to promote clean air awareness and encourage eco-friendly transportation.

 

The certificates were presented by Commissioner Srishti Singh, IAS, acknowledging the efforts of the participants in supporting the campaign.

 

Internship certificates were also awarded to volunteers who contributed significantly to organizing and supporting the Jam Street Clean Fest, Cyclothon, and other activities conducted under the Clean Air Citizens Drive campaign.

 

Special recognition was also given to educational institutions for their active participation in the Eco-Bricks collection drive.

 

Gurucharan College and Radha Madhab College were honoured for submitting the highest number of Eco-Bricks. Both institutions were awarded mementos and appreciation certificates, presented by Srishti Singh, IAS, in recognition of their outstanding contribution.

 

The programme also witnessed the presence of members from Shrishti Waste Management Service Pvt. Ltd., members of various Self Help Groups (SHGs), volunteers, students, and participants from different educational institutions.

 

The entire programme was successfully implemented by TOWASO Pvt. Ltd., whose dedicated team coordinated and ensured the smooth execution of the event.

 

The event concluded on a positive note with appreciation extended to all stakeholders, volunteers, institutions, and supporting organizations for their valuable contributions toward promoting environmental awareness and supporting the vision of cleaner air and sustainable urban development in Silchar.
