Cachar registers 187 COVID-19 +ve cases on Wednesday, total rises to 3,479

2 more deaths at Silchar Medical College

August 12: On Wednesday, 187 new cases of coronavirus positive were reported from across Cachar district. Out of this, 177 were detected as COVID-19 positive during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 10 of them were found positive in RT-PCR Test (1st slot). With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases have now reached 3479. At present, more than 1400 are active cases in the district. A little over 1900 patients were discharged from various hospitals and Covid Care Centres in Cachar. Further, the death tally of the state has gone upto 11.

Cachar registered two more COVID-19 deaths. Both the patients were admitted in the ICU at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). They died on Tuesday and their deaths were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 deaths. This was disclosed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH.

Dr. Gupta further said that, 2 deceased were identified as Namita Dey (53) from Sarat Pally, Silchar. She was admitted at SMCH on 30 July. Apart from being COVID-19 positive, she was also suffering from pneumonia. She was kept in COVID ICU of SMCH. However, she succumbed to the infection on Tuesday. The other deceased was identified as Himangshu Dey (70) from Amraghat in Cachar. He was also admitted in the ICU of SMCH. However, he too breathed his last on Tuesday. With this, the death toll in Cachar district due to COVID-19 has gone upto 11.

A coronavirus patient, Pawan Agarwal (70 years), who was admitted in COVID ICU at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) got cured. He was diabetic and was also a case of cardiac transplant. On Tuesday, this 70-year-old patient’s report came as negative. He has now been shifted from COVID ICU to Central ICU. This was disclosed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Dr. Gupta expressed happiness at the fact that such a critical patient was successfully treated and cured by the health team at SMCH.

In the 1st slot of RT-PCR results, 10 persons tested positive. Out of them, 2 persons, a 50-year-old male and a 24-year-old female were found positive. They are from RMS Quarter, Trunk Road, Tarapur. Both of them though positive, but came in direct contact with high risk lab confirmed case. Another 55 years old male from Silchar, Ambicapatty was detected as COVID-19 positive during the day through Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme (ATSP).

Further, a 26 years female from Bilpar was also found positive. She too came in direct contact with high risk lab confirmed case. 18 years old female from Ashutosh Lane (Sonai Road) and 46 years old female from Saratpally were also detected coronavirus positive. Apart from them, a CRPF jawan from Kahipur, a 44 years male from Kalain and 2 more from Silchar were also positive as per the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test Results.

As regards screening, in the last 24 hours, 141 patients were screened at SMCH. 503 samples were collected. 11 persons tested positive at SMCH in the last 24 hours (RTPCR). In the last 24 hours, 18 patients were admitted and 20 of them discharged from SMCH.At present, there are 136 patients admitted in the Covid ward, 12 in ICU and 3 in ventilation. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH.
