Polling materials distributed as Silchar Municipal Corporation Election enters final stage

way2barak, October 2: –Distribution of polling materials among polling personnel for the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election 2026 began at 7 am in friday with election teams collecting ballot boxes and other essential polling materials before proceeding to their respective polling stations.

Cachar District Commissioner and District Election Officer Rahul Kumar Gupta, IAS along with senior election officials, supervised the distribution process and reviewed the arrangements for the smooth conduct of polling. Election personnel, after receiving the required materials and having their meals at the distribution centre, proceeded towards their assigned polling stations to take up their duties.

While speaking to media persons during the distribution process at the ISTT on Friday, District Commissioner and District Election Officer Rahul Kumar Gupta said that polling for the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election 2026 would be held tomorrow, October 3 in 40 wards as Ward Nos. 9 and 20 are uncontested. He informed that 303 polling stations have been arranged for polling and that the polling network has been divided into 18 sectors and six zones. Approximately 2.70 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the election.

Elaborating on the arrangements, the District Commissioner said that each of the 18 sectors has been placed under the supervision of a sector official and a police sector officer to oversee the polling arrangements, particularly security related aspects and to respond promptly to any problem that may arise at the polling stations. He said that around 1,500 polling personnel are being deployed for the election and that they would move to their respective polling stations with the polling materials on Friday. He said that additional security and magistrate level arrangements have been put in place.

The District Election Officer said that the sector officers would function as the “eyes and ears” of the election machinery at the polling stations and would ensure that any issue arising during the polling process is promptly brought to the notice of the concerned authorities and addressed in accordance with the prescribed procedures. He appealed to voters to turn out in large numbers and carry their EPIC cards along with the other prescribed identification documents while visiting their polling stations on October 3.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Partha Pratim Das, IPS while speaking to media persons at the ISTT on Friday, said that around 700 police personnel have been deployed for the Silchar Municipal Corporation election to ensure peaceful and smooth polling. He said the deployment has been made in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission with police personnel and Home Guards assigned to polling stations across the corporation area.

The SSP said that separate police forces have also been earmarked for areas where there is a possibility of disturbance. He said that the election security arrangements include police sector and zonal sector officers who will monitor the polling stations and the overall security situation during the voting process. District level police officers will also conduct regular patrolling and visit polling centres to monitor the security arrangements.

The Senior Superintendent of Police said that the police expect the polling process to pass off smoothly and peacefully. He further informed that polling would begin at 7:30 am and continue until 4 pm on October 3.

It’s worth mentioning that the polling personnel have undergone training and briefing over the past several weeks regarding polling procedures and their respective responsibilities. They have now been entrusted with the task of ensuring that polling on October 3 is conducted smoothly, fairly and in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

Meanwhile the District Administration, Cachar has made arrangements for refreshments, meals, transportation and other welfare requirements of the polling personnel to facilitate their departure to the assigned polling stations without inconvenience.

Notably ,as part of the election arrangements, 10 women-run polling stations have also been set up in Silchar Municipal Corporation where women polling personnel will be responsible for conducting the polling process.

Following the completion of the distribution process, polling teams continued their journey to their respective polling stations with the election materials and equipment required for polling. The arrangements are being closely monitored by the district election machinery as polling day approaches.

The District Administration has appealed to all voters and stakeholders to extend cooperation to the election personnel and maintain peace and discipline at the polling stations. Voters have also been urged to exercise their franchise responsibly and follow the instructions of the polling officials.
