Gandhi Jayanti observed across Cachar with tributes, Swachhata drive

way2barak , October 2:— Gandhi Jayanti was observed across Cachar on Friday with government officials, civic authorities and employees paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary and taking part in cleanliness-related activities.
At Gandhi Bagh Park on Park Road near Shahid Smarak, the main observance saw the Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Corporation, members of Gandhi Shanti Pratisthan and other officials paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
The programme also turned attention to the city’s sanitation workers. Silchar Municipal Corporation, in association with Shrishti Waste Management Services, distributed PPE kits to women SafaiMitras in recognition of their work in maintaining cleanliness in the city.
A Swachhata drive was subsequently conducted across the Gandhi Bagh Park premises. The activity sought to promote cleanliness in public spaces and reinforce the message of Swachh Bharat through community participation.
Earlier, at the District Commissioner’s office in Silchar, Additional District Commissioner Manojyoti Kutum, ACS, and Assistant Commissioner, Cachar, Arunabh Choudhury, ACS, paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Officials and staff of the DC’s establishment, including Administrative Officer Prabir Kurmi, Topojyoti Dutta and other district administration officials also participated in the observance. On the occasion, a pledge on non-violence was also taken by ADC Manojyoti Kutum, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, Cachar, Arunabh Choudhury, ACS along with officials and staff, reaffirming the values of peace and non-violence associated with Mahatma Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar also observed the day. Officials and staff paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the office premises.
Gandhi Jayanti was also observed by the Sonai Municipal Board with a programme commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and upholding his ideals of cleanliness and public service. As part of the observance, officials and staff took the Swachhata Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and promoting a clean, healthy and hygienic environment in Sonai.
Similarly, the Badarpur Municipal Board observed Gandhi Jayanti with a programme commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, pledges on non-violence and Swachhata were also taken by officials and staff, reiterating the values of peace, cleanliness and public responsibility.
A pledge was also taken across various government offices and institutions in Cachar district on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, with officials and staff reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of non violence, cleanliness and public service associated with Mahatma Gandhi.
The participation of SafaiMitras in the Gandhi Bagh programme gave the day’s observance a direct connection with Mahatma Gandhi’s message on cleanliness and the daily work of those responsible for keeping public spaces clean.
