Kaushik Rai reviews key development projects in Lakhipur

way2barak, June 27 : Assam Govt’s Minister for Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Housing & Urban Affairs and Cooperation, Kaushik Rai on Saturday conducted an extensive review of ongoing development projects in Lakhipur Co- District and inspected several major infrastructure works stressing the need for quality execution and timely completion of projects that directly benefit the public.

At the conference hall of Lakhipur Co-District Office, the Minister chaired a detailed review meeting with district officials and contractors to assess the progress of development works being implemented by various departments. The meeting was attended by Lakhipur Co-District Commissioner, Dhrubajyoti Pathak, Cachar District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy and district-level officers of the concerned departments.
Reviewing the works of the Public Works Department (Roads), Minister Kaushik Rai examined the progress of road projects being executed under Assam Mala, Mukhyamantrir Unnoto Pakipath, Mukhyamantrir Pakipath, tea garden road schemes and other important road connectivity projects. He directed officials to maintain construction quality while ensuring that works are completed within the stipulated timeline.
The Minister also reviewed ongoing projects under the Public Works Department (Buildings), including the Integrated Co-District Commissioner’s Office at Lakhipur, the 100-bed District Hospital, Mini Stadium, school buildings, the Law College and other public infrastructure projects. He instructed the executing agencies to maintain high construction standards and avoid unnecessary delays.
The Public Health Engineering Department presented the status of drinking water supply schemes, rural water distribution projects and sanitation initiatives. The Minister reviewed measures being taken to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water, particularly in rural areas.
During the review of the Power Department, discussions focused on maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply during the monsoon season, strengthening rural electrification and addressing issues affecting consumers across the Co-District.
The Education Department outlined the progress of school infrastructure development, construction of new academic buildings, initiatives to improve learning standards and the supply of educational materials. The Minister also reviewed the implementation of government education schemes and emphasised the increasing use of technology in classrooms.
Officials of the Social Welfare Department briefed the meeting on the development of Model Anganwadi Centres, measures to improve early childhood education and the availability of learning materials for children.
The Health Department reviewed the functioning of healthcare institutions, strengthening of primary health centres and expansion of healthcare services in rural areas to improve access to quality medical care.
The Minister also reviewed the Water Resources Department’s ongoing flood control and erosion protection works, conservation of rivers and embankments, drainage improvement measures and the implementation of various water resource projects ahead of the monsoon.
The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department presented the progress of livestock healthcare services, vaccination drives, expansion of veterinary facilities, livestock-based livelihood programmes, implementation of government welfare schemes and the construction of the proposed Multi-Care Veterinary Hospital.
Earlier in the day, The Minister inspected the ongoing construction of the District Library in Silchar along with officials of the Public Works Department (Buildings). He directed engineers and contractors to ensure the highest construction standards and complete the project within the prescribed timeframe so that the library emerges as a modern knowledge centre for students, researchers and the general public.
The Minister later visited the construction site of the new Silchar Circuit House, where he reviewed the progress of work in the presence of District Development Commissioner Shri Rajib Roy and engineers of the Public Works Department (Buildings). He instructed the executing agencies to maintain quality while ensuring timely completion so that the facility can provide improved accommodation and amenities for visitors and government officials.
Minister Kaushik Rai also inspected the construction of the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office for Cachar at Silchar. During the visit, he reviewed the pace of work with officials of the Public Works Department and directed both engineers and the contractor to complete the project on schedule. The new administrative complex is expected to improve coordination among government offices and enhance the delivery of public services.
The Minister stated that the ongoing infrastructure projects across Cachar and Lakhipur will strengthen public facilities, improve connectivity, enhance administrative efficiency and expand access to essential services. He said the State Government continues to give priority to durable public infrastructure that supports education, healthcare, governance and overall socio-economic development under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
