Now it is our challenge to absorb all the investment : Himanta

way2barak February 27: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on the concluding day of “Advantage Assam2.0” summit on Wednesday, said infrastructure investment of Rs 1 lakh crore has been committed by central govt, primarily for developing railways, waterways and highways.

On opening day of the summit on Monday, India’s top industry leaders committed over Rs 1.8 lakh crore investment.

Sarma pointed out that the state has to “now invest in our manpower and develop a skilled workforce to ensure Assam can absorb such investment,” emphasising on the necessity to restructure the state’s educational framework for the purpose.

“The summit calls for an immediate overhaul in our education sector. If we have to mitigate unemployment, we have to overhaul our education sector completely. And we have to work dedicatedly for that,” Sarma said.

Speaking on the session on road transport, railways and shipping at the summit, Sarma said, “These companies need manpower and the onus is on us to decide whether we create vacuum and allow manpower from outside the state to come and we don’t create vacuum and ensure nobody comes from outside the state.”

“If our engineering colleges start producing engineers for making tunnels for express highways, nobody from outside will come. Rather we are going to send manpower outside Assam. This is the challenge our academia has to take ” Sarma said.
