Cachar pays homage to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his birth centenary

way2barak, September 8: –The birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was observed across Cachar on Tuesday with cultural programmes and floral tributes, as the district joined the State-wide year-long celebrations organised from September 8, 2025 to September 8, 2026 to commemorate the legendary singer, composer, lyricist, poet and humanist.
The district-level concluding ceremony of the year-long cultural programmes was held at the premises of the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar, in the presence of Cachar District Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta, IAS, District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy, ACS, Additional District Commissioners and other officials and employees of the district administration, along with artistes from various cultural organisations.
The gathering offered floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Hazarika and remembered his immense contribution to music, literature and culture. The occasion became particularly poignant when those present joined in a chorus rendition of his immortal song “Bistirno parore ” recalling the message of humanity, compassion and social harmony that runs through much of his creative work.
Meanwhile, the birth centenary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was also observed at the Regional Office of the Information and Public Relations Department, Barak Valley Region, Silchar in the presence of Assistant Commissioner, Cachar and i/c DDIPR, Barak Valley Region, Silchar, Arunabh Choudhury, ACS ,the officials and the staff of the office.
Incharge DDIPR Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam, Arunabha Choudhury paid a floral tribute to Dr. Hazarika and spoke about his enduring contribution to humanity, equality and social harmony. He said the legendary artiste consistently raised his voice against inequality and discrimination irrespective of caste, creed or religion while using music and literature to convey a powerful message of fraternity and human dignity.
He also urged people, particularly the younger generation to draw inspiration from Dr. Hazarika’s life and works and follow the path of humanity, harmony, compassion and social responsibility.
As part of the observance at the DDIPR office, the timeless song “Manush Manusher Jonno” was rendered by Proobal Deb as a tribute to the legendary artiste and musician.
The birth centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was also observed in all government departments of Cachar in a befitting manner. Officials and employees across the district offered floral tributes and remembered the unparalleled contribution of the Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika to music, literature, culture and society.
