Era Amader – Premiered at the 6th Social Work Week 2025

way2barak, 22 August: Era Amader, a documentary film on a socio–welfare organization, was premiered at the Bipin Chandra Pal Seminar Hall during the 6th Social Work Week 2025. The film was formally released by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant. Produced by the Department of Social Work, Assam University, Silchar, in association with SSSA Mirage Films, the screening marked a significant moment in the university’s journey of social engagement.
Titled in Bangla as “এরা আমাদের” (They Are Ours), the documentary offers a heartfelt exploration of the lives of individuals with autism and other developmental conditions. It sensitively portrays their daily realities, challenges and aspirations, while underscoring the values of empathy, acceptance, and inclusion. With an optimistic spirit, the film seeks to foster awareness and inspire a society that embraces neurodiverse individuals with dignity, respect, and love.

The project was conceptualized by Dr. Kaivalya T. Desai and Dr. Joyashri Dey under the Department of Social Work, Assam University, in collaboration with SSSA Mirage Films. Through evocative cinematography by Swapnodeep Sen and Arundhati Paul Chowdhury, the film captures authentic and intimate moments, enabling the audience to move beyond stereotypes and witness the human stories within. The editing, crafted by Swapnodeep Sen (SSSA Mirage Films), weaves these narratives into a compelling and thought-provoking journey.
The script and research, developed by Dr. Desai, Dr. Dey, and Swapnodeep Sen, ensure that the work remains authentic, compassionate, and rooted in both academic and social understanding. Directed and managed by Dr. Desai and Dr. Dey, the film stands as a reflection of their vision to blend scholarship with social responsibility.
Prof. Tarun Sukai (Head of Department, Social Work) commended the collaborative efforts of the Department of Social Work, the Era Amader organization, and SSSA Mirage Films in bringing this initiative to life.
Speaking at the premiere, Prof. Pant remarked: “এরা আমাদের is not merely a film—it is a message of hope, acceptance, and inclusion. It reminds us that individuals with autism and other developmental challenges are not separate, but an inseparable part of our collective family.”
