House listing operations : Cachar Administration launches intensive training programme

way2barak, May 28 :- In a major preparatory step towards the forthcoming Census of India 2027, a three-day training programme for Charge Officers (Circle Officers, Executive Officers), technical assistants and field-level functionaries was organised on Wednesday at the auditorium of Gurucharan University under the initiative of the District Administration Cachar. The officials from Sonai Municipal Board, Lakhipur Municipal Board, Badarpur Municipal Board, Silchar Municipal Corporation and other associated departments also participated to strengthen preparedness for the upcoming house listing operations under the national census exercise.
Earlier, Additional District Commissioner, Cachar and District Census Officer ,Roktim Baruah, ACS highlighted the significance of the Census as one of the largest administrative exercises undertaken in the country. He stressed that the training programme had been designed to equip officers and field personnel with the necessary technical knowledge and operational clarity required for the successful conduct of the Census process. He stated that accurate and systematic data collection forms the backbone of developmental planning and public policy formulation and therefore the role of enumerators and supervisory officers would be extremely crucial during the house listing operations. He further stated that the transition towards digital enumeration marks a transformative step in the history of census operations in India and called upon all participating officials to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, precision and commitment.
Resource persons from Directorate of Census, Assam, Guwahati, Deputy Directors, Census, M. D. Rupchan Ali and Tanay Srivastava imparted detailed training sessions on various operational and technical aspects related to the Census process. The sessions focused primarily on the modalities of the House Listing Operation to be conducted as part of Census 2027 including digital data collection methods, field verification procedures and use of the designated mobile application.
During the programme, officials were informed that the House Listing Operation in Assam is scheduled to be conducted from August onwards. In the training it was informed that for the first time in India, Census data would be collected through digital tools marking a significant shift from conventional paper-based enumeration practices.
It is worth mentioning that the enumerators engaged in the Census exercise will collect data through the specially designed mobile application titled HLO Census 2027 enabling faster, more transparent and efficient compilation of demographic information. The intensive training sessions will be continued upto 30th May,2026 to ensure smooth implementation of the Census operations across the district with greater accuracy.
