Agitating farmers seek special Parliament session to repeal farm laws

Dec. 2: Agitating Indian farmers on Wednesday urged the union government to convene a special session of Parliament to repeal the three farm laws. Addressing a press conference, farmer leader Darshan Pal accused the Centre of dividing farmer organisations, but it will not happen. He said that protesting farmers will continue their agitation till the three farm laws are repealed. “Centre should call a special session of Parliament to repeal the three farm laws,” Singh said.

The protesting farmers are scheduled to meet the ministerial panel headed by Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday and submit in writing their objections to the three farm sector laws passed by Parliament in September. This meeting is a follow up to the deliberations on Tuesday which remained inconclusive.

Darshan Pal, President of the Krantikari Kisan Union, said, “On December 5, we will protest against the Modi government and the corporate houses and burn their effigies.” The farmers’ organisations will burn the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani in every village on Saturday, which will be followed up by the return of all state awards by many sportsperson and ex-servicemen.

Another farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chadoni said that if the Centre does not withdraw the new laws, more steps will be taken in the coming days to press their demands. Police stepped up security after thousands blocked key gateways into the national capital for the seventh day on the trot, leaving commuters facing a harrowing time.
