Swine Flu cases on the rise in Assam

February 19: After Rajasthan, several cases of swine flu has been detected in Assam. Patients affected by the H1N1 virus is continually increasing in Assam. As of now, more than than 15 cases have been reported in Guwahati itself. Apart from Guwahati, cases of swine flu has also been reported from Nalbari, Karbi Anglong, Baksa and other districts of the state.

There were also reports of cases of death as a result of swine flu in Assam. H1N1 flu is also known as swine flu. It’s called swine flu because in the past, the people who caught it had direct contact with pigs. That changed several years ago, when a new virus emerged that spread among people who hadn’t been near pigs.

Swine flu was first recognised in the 1919 pandemic and still circulates as a seasonal flu virus. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, chills, weakness and body aches. Children, pregnant women and the elderly are at risk from severe infection. Typical treatment includes rest, pain relievers and fluids. In some cases antiviral medication and IV fluids may be required.

Unfortunately, according to health officials, a large number of patients are seeking medical attention when they’ve already reached the last stage of the disease. Neglecting early symptoms such as cold and cough has lead to the development of acute respiratory problems or pneumonia in patients, after which the ability to fight the virus becomes drastically reduced.
