Barak Valley registers 138 Covid-19 +ve cases on Saturday
April 24: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 138 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 110 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 108 positive cases (It was 92 on Friday)
- Karimganj: 21 positive cases (It was 14 on Friday)
- Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 04 on Friday)
On Saturday, a total of 108 persons were found positive in Cachar district on 24 April. Earlier, during at 6 PM, it was informed that 103 persons were found positive. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 411. As per the updated data, a total of 1,373 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 79 persons were found positive, whereas 29 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Saturday night. It is for the first time in 2021 that the number of active cases detected in a day crossed the 100-mark and reached 108. It needs mention here that on Friday, the total positive cases in the district was 92.
Hailakandi reported nine fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,418. Of the nine active cases detected on Saturday, seven have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test. So far 1,418 have been found positive under RT-PCR and 2,000 under RAT. Results of 549 samples are being awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The district has altogether 35 active COVID-19 cases while 3,360 patients have recuperated from the affliction. Eight patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, one at Silchar Medical College and Hospital and 26 kept under home isolation.
On Saturday, out of 3,940 Covid tests done, 21 persons were found positive in Karimganj district. Further, during the day, 38 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 89 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Friday, 14 persons were found positive in the district.
On Saturday, out of 69,094 tests, 2,236 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,35,689. The positivity rate in the state is 3.24 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 815 positive cases during the day. During the day, 14 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1186. This is the highest single-day deaths recorded in Assam in 2021.
On Saturday, 619 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,18,958 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged from various hospitals and Covid Care centres across the state. Further, during the day, 14 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day figures in the state this year. Out of the 14 deceased, 03 are from Kamrup Metro, 2 each from Dibrugarh, Hojai, Jorhat & Kamrup Rural; 1 each from Barpeta, Sonitpur & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,186.
