HSLC/HS to be held in select subjects; no change in format of question papers: Ranoj Pegu

May 30: After the postponement of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC),  Assam High Madrassa Exams 2021 and Higher Secondary 2nd year exams by SEBA and AHSEC respectively due to the worsening of Covid scenario in the state, there were much confusion among the students and their guardians in this connection. Many wanted to know whether the postponed exams will be held at a later date or will be cancelled like that done by CBSE. Meanwhile, State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu cleared the air ans asserted that there is no question of cancelling HSLC and HS examinations and the same will be held with reduced subjects.

The minister said he consulted with various entities including students’ organisations, teachers’ organisation as well as parents before deciding on the matter. He also said that students will be informed 15 days prior to the commencement of the exams. The minister indicated that there will be no change in formats of question papers.

It needs mention here that HSLC students have to appear in 6 subjects and those in HS are to appear in 5 subjects. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, they may be given the special opportunity this time to appear in only 3/4 subjects of their choice, both in HSLC/AHM and HS exams. The examinations will be held in offline mode.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu also said that both the SEBA and AHSEC are prepared to conduct the exams at a 15 days’ notice from the health department. Once the Covid situation improves and the state health department gives permission to conduct the HSLC/AHM and HS exams, a formal notification in this regard will be issued. However, the minister did not specify any time schedule for the conduct of these examinations, as this would depend on the improvement of the Covid situation and the subsequent permission from the health department. He, however, urged upon the students to be prepared for the exams.
