30,000 detonators seized in Meghalaya, two arrested

way2barak, May 14: Meghalaya Police have seized 30,000 detonators from a vehicle in East Jaintia Hills district and arrested two men from Assam in connection with the illegal transport of explosive materials, officials said on Thursday.

The seizure was made during a routine vehicle checking operation conducted in the early hours of Wednesday at Umkiang, along a key inter-state transit route.
According to East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania, a suspicious white Hyundai Eon bearing registration number AS-10-A-5916 was intercepted at around 2:30 am near the 2 Kilo area under Umkiang village while travelling towards Silchar.
During a detailed inspection of the vehicle, police recovered 30,000 detonators concealed inside two boxes and a bag.
