April 6: Lockdown may not be withdrawn at a time on 15 April. There will be scientific and systematic withdrawl of lockdown, otherwise this whole exercise will be of no avail. This was stated by state Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference in Guwahati on Monday afternoon. It needs mention here that the 21 days national lockdown was declared by PM Modi from midnight of 24 March.

The minister said that 9 April will be a very significant day for Assam as on that day all the Deputy Commissioner’s have been asked to give reports on the persons quarantined in their respective districts. Those quarantined, who have no symptoms of COVID-19 will be released on 9 April. However, those having fever or any other symptoms of COVID-19 will be tested again and will also be released, if their reports comes out to be negative. He said that if everything goes on well, then on 9 April, 2020, around 74,000 people kept in quarantined in different districts of Assam will be released.

Those inhabitants of Assam who are struck outside Assam will henceforth require temporary Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state after the lockdown is withdrawn by the government. The state government will be doing sequencing to keep a track on those entering Assam primarily because if all are allowed to enter the state together, then it will be impossible to keep track on all and even those infected with the virus may sneak into the state. This was stated by state Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference on Monday afternoon.
