Miserable plight of NRC excluded populace highlighted in the executive committee meeting of District Congress
September 19: An executive committee meeting of District Congress Committee (DCC), Silchar took place at Indira Bhavan on Thursday. In the meeting presided over by DCC President Pradip Kumar Dey, Sanjeeb Roy, Secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee placed before the house the scenario in post-NRC Assam. Mr. Roy highlighted the miserable plight of those who were excluded from the final NRC declared on 31 August, 2019.
Expressing his views on this matter of NRC left out populace, DCC President Pradip Kumar Dey said that out of a total number of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 were included in the final NRC. That means a total of 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the NRC. This is indeed a very serious matter. He stated that many genuine citizens were left out of the final NRC inspite of having all sorts of valid documents for reasons best known to the NRC authorities.
DCC General Secretary Jalal Ahmed Majumder highlighted the issue of taking disciplinary action against those who after reaping all the fruits from Congress left the party being lured by money and power. Advocate Deepak Deb, Chairman of District Legal Cell of DCC presented a post-mortem of the various issues related to NRC. Others who spoke on a gamut of issues included Sariffujaman Laskar, Sanchita Acharjee, Debodip Dutta, Hareswar Dhobi, Babul Ahmed.
The meeting of DCC was also attended by Sujan Dutta, Rajesh Dev, Nilotpol Sen, Simanto Bhattacharjee, Sajal Acharjee, Abhijit Paul, Javed Akhtar, Nasima Begum Saukat Sultana among others.
