Tezpur MP R P Sarmah resigns from BJP

March 16: RP Sharma, Member of Parliament from Tezpur tendered his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday.

I felt greatly insulted when my name, a sitting MP and the President of Assam Gorkha Sammelan, did not find place in panel sent up by the state BJP committee. Friends and the people of Assam and my constituency, I will continue to serve you till the end of my life. I will always lovingly nurture your support and love for me for such a long time. I love you from the core of my heart.”

MP RP Sarmah who had been a BJP and RSS member for a long time was unlikely to get the party ticket this time. Though the BJP is yet to declare the list of candidates for Assam, sources in the party said that the party leadership were planning to put up state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his constituency (Tezpur) this time.
