Assam govt announces to cover 6 more diseases under ‘Atal Amrit Abhiyan’

October 23: The Assam Cabinet announced that from now onward ‘Atal Amrit Abhiyan’ will expand its scope and will include six more diseases in its ambit. It will cover ICU packages, Trauma, Critical Care Pediatrics & Pediatric Surgery and Bone Marrow. The cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati’s Janata Bhawan on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma said that a total of 1.5 crore people have been covered under the scheme and 4,500 patients have availed its benefit since its launch in 2016. He said that till now the expenditure on Atal Amrit Abhiyan is Rs. 140 crore. The health minister further said that the treatment for Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome will become almost free as the cost of treatment rarely crosses Rs. 2 lakh.

Atal Amrit Abhiyan is a health insurance scheme launched by Assam government in 2016. Those whose annual income is upto Rs.5 lakh are eligible to reap the benefits of the scheme.
