Summer Workshop 2025 wraps up with cultural flourish across Cachar

way2barak, July 28 : In a spirited celebration of youth, culture, and creativity, the Summer Vacation Workshop 2025 ,a district-wide initiative by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, in collaboration with the Cachar District Administration came to a resounding conclusion on Saturday, July 26. The 15-day workshop, held simultaneously across 14 venues in all 7 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) of Cachar, drew participation from hundreds of students and was marked by a lively display of music, dance, theatre, yoga, and martial arts at the respective valedictory functions.
Launched on July 11, the workshop was envisioned as a creative outlet for school students during their summer break, aiming to promote physical well-being, artistic expression, and cultural awareness. The sessions covered a wide range of disciplines from traditional and contemporary dance forms to vocal music, recitation, drama, yoga, and basic self-defense techniques. These were conducted by local cultural experts, trainers, and instructors under the close supervision of local organising committees and school authorities.
At Jagai Mathura Higher Secondary School in the Lakhipur LAC, Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Barak Valley Development and Mines and Minerals ,Shri Kaushik Rai, graced the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, parents, and local cultural enthusiasts, the minister said, “This workshop reflects the government’s commitment to nurturing talent and preserving Assam’s rich cultural fabric. It is heartening to witness the excitement and discipline displayed by the students. Initiatives like this are crucial in shaping not only confident individuals but also socially aware, creative citizens. I congratulate all the organisers, trainers, and participants for making this event a grand success.”
The Lakhipur event was co-managed by Barak Upatyaka Bangya Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan, Lakhipur Samiti, whose dedicated team ensured smooth execution of the training sessions. The minister also distributed participation certificates and interacted warmly with the young performers, many of whom showcased their skills in short cultural presentations during the ceremony.
Simultaneously, the Udharbond LAC held its closing events at Kashipur Vallabhbhai Patel School and the DIET Centre, where local MLA Shri Mihir Kanti Shome attended as Guest of Honour. In his address, Shome applauded the vision behind the workshop and said,
“Our youth are brimming with potential. Programmes like these channel that energy into something meaningful. The blend of physical training and cultural exposure not only sharpens their skills but also boosts self-confidence and creativity. I thank the Honourable Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Cultural Affairs Department for supporting such empowering initiatives.”
MLA , Mihir Kanti Shome also lauded the role of teachers and trainers, calling them “mentors who plant the seeds of excellence,” and emphasised the need for such creative platforms to be continued throughout the academic year as co-curricular boosters.
From bustling town schools to remote venues in rural pockets of the district, the workshops witnessed enthusiastic footfall and positive community engagement. Several parents and local leaders, present at the events, expressed appreciation for the opportunity provided to children, especially those with limited access to extracurricular training.
Reacting to the successful conclusion of the Summer Vacation Workshop 2025, Cachar District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav, IAS, remarked that the initiative stood out as one of the largest and most coordinated cultural outreach efforts undertaken in the district in recent years. He highlighted the pivotal role played by the District Commissioner’s office in streamlining resources, mobilising active participation from schools, and ensuring that all 14 venues were efficiently managed with trained instructors and essential supplies. The unwavering support from local schools further strengthened the programme, as they generously offered their classrooms, auditoriums, and halls transforming them into vibrant spaces of learning, creativity, and community engagement.
It is worthy to mention that more than just a summer programme, the initiative is being hailed as a success story in community-based cultural education one that not only encouraged the discovery of hidden talents but also promoted discipline, collaboration, and heritage pride among the district’s youth.
As the curtains fell on the final day of the Summer Vacation Workshop 2025, the applause and smiling faces were testimony to its impact. With strong backing from the government and local bodies, the hope now is that this will become a recurring and expanding feature in the annual calendar of Cachar, laying the groundwork for a culturally enriched, confident next generation.
