SMC issues public advisory on construction and demolition waste management

way2barak, July 28: The Silchar Municipal Corporation has issued a public advisory urging all households, commercial establishments, contractors, and construction agencies within its jurisdiction to strictly comply with the provisions of the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016.

The Corporation has informed that dumping or storing construction materials such as sand, bricks, concrete, debris, or any other construction and demolition (C&D) waste on public roads, footpaths, drains, or open spaces is strictly prohibited. Such practices obstruct public movement, create environmental hazards, and adversely affect civic sanitation.

The Corporation has further warned that any individual, agency or entity found violating the rules by illegally dumping or storing construction and demolition waste shall be liable for immediate seizure of the materials, imposition of penalties or fines, and legal action under the provisions of Section 254 of the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.

Citizens and construction agencies are requested to ensure that construction and demolition waste is disposed of only through authorized and environmentally safe methods in coordination with the Solid Waste Management Department of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.

The Silchar Municipal Corporation appeals to all residents to extend their wholehearted cooperation in maintaining public cleanliness, protecting the environment, and ensuring civic order. Together, let us contribute towards building a Swachh Sundor Silchar.
