Silchar Women’s Football Team Receives Jerseys Ahead of Inter-District Championship

way2barak, June 30: The players of the Silchar district team, set to participate in the Senior Inter-District Women’s Football Championship, were presented with their official jerseys by the District Sports Association (DSA) on Monday evening.

A total of 18 players received jerseys along with head coach Babu Singh, assistant coach Sunanda Chanu, and team manager Tapan Das. The jerseys were sponsored by noted educationist and social worker Sumitra Ghosh.

The jersey distribution ceremony was held at the conference hall of Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Stadium in the presence of several eminent sports personalities. Addressing the gathering, Rupam Club President and former Deputy Registrar of Assam University Dr. Bibhas Deb, sponsor Sumitra Ghosh, and DSA President Shibrata Dutta encouraged the players and expressed confidence that the team would deliver an impressive performance in the championship.

Silchar was originally scheduled to play its opening match on July 2 in Bilasipara. However, during the jersey presentation programme, news arrived that the tournament had been postponed due to waterlogging caused by continuous rainfall. The Assam Football Association decided to defer the competition until conditions improve.

As a result, the players will return to their respective homes on Tuesday morning. The team will leave for Bilasipara once the revised schedule for the tournament is announced.

Among those present at the function were DSA Vice-President Nandadulal Roy, Football Secretary Bikash Das, Masters Games athlete Shilu Rani Nath, founder secretary of Badarpur Press Club Shelim Khan, former footballers Krishna Bahadur Chhetri, Sumanta Das, Morning Club President Rajkumar Paul, DSA Assistant Secretary Ajay Kumar Roy, and others. The programme was conducted by Swimming Secretary Sukhen Sarkar, while DSA Secretary in charge Debashis Shome delivered the vote of thanks and conveyed his best wishes to the team.
