Silchar girl Sucharita struggling for kidney transplant provided ₹3 lakh from PMs Relief Fund
Jan. 1: At a time, when the entire globe is captivated by Coronavirus pandemic, there are some who are also struggling for a lease of life who are ill due to some other diseases. The problem becomes more aggravated for those who are financially weak as treatment of major diseases involve a huge lot of money. Such a sorrowful incident came to light at Silchar town in Assam a few months back.
27 year old Sucharita Bhattacharjee from Vivekananda Road, Silchar is suffering from kidney ailment. Both her kidneys have stopped functioning. Somehow, her mother managed to take her to Kolkata for better treatment where the doctors opined that she required an urgent kidney transplant. The young graduate Sucharita Bhattacharjee stays with her mother & brother. Her father has already passed away. Her brother is working here in a private firm. Somehow, the mother-daughter duo along with the paltry income of her brother was passing their days.
It was indeed a bolt from the blue for the family. There were two main obstacles faced by the family. First, a huge amount of money was required for kidney transplant and secondly, they also required a donor. Since then, one and a half years have passed. She goes for dialysis at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) twice or thrice a week for dialysis.
Recently, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy helped Sucharita to get some financial aid from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. However, that money was not enough for the kidney transplant. Noted folk singer of Silchar, Bikramjit Baulia too came up with a Facebook Live session on 7 July for fund raising to support Sucharita Bhattacharjee. Due to his appeal through songs, many have come forward with generous contributions to support Sucharita.
However, the money collected for Renal transplant (kidney transplant) was not enough. Sucharita and her mother also appealed for financial assistance through a Facebook post. She further urged upon the netizens to help manage her a kidney. Many came forward and contributed for her cause.
Meanwhile, Sucharita appealed for financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for her Renal Transplant. Her appeal reached the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on 20 October, 2021. Following her appeal, the PMO released an amount of Rs. 3 lakh for her kidney transplant the next month. PMO sent the money directly to Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata where Sucharita will undergo the treatment.
A copy of sanction letter was also marked to Sucharita and Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MP Silchar. Taking to his social media handle, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy wrote, “A Financial assistance of Rs 3,00,000.00 has been approved in favour of Ms Sucharita Bhattacharjee from Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for her Renal Transplant. We wish her a good health and a speedy recovery. Take care and stay blessed.”
