Riyan Parag of Assam becomes youngest player to score 50 in IPL

May 4: Riyan Parag, son of former Assam Ranji Trophy player became the youngest player to score a half-century in the Indian Premier League. Riyan is Rajasthan Royals’ new hero and young cricketer from Assam’s Guwahati. Riyan Parag was the star attraction of the innings against the Delhi Capitals as he made 50 runs in 49 balls. Rajasthan Royals made only 119/9 in their last league match on Saturday.

Parag, who made his IPL debut this year, has so far played seven matches, scoring 160 runs at an average of 40. His strike-rate is 128.0. He achieved this feat of becoming the youngest player to score 50 at the tender age of 17 years and 175 days. He broke the record of Sanju Samson, who had hit a maiden 50 at the age of 18 years 169 days in 2013. Riyan hit four boundaries and two sixes in his 50 runs.

The leg-break bowler made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings on April 11th, 2019. He was a member of the World Cup-winning India’s under-19 team in 2018. The young Assam all-rounder was part of the champion team of the U-19 ICC World Cup 2018. He is the second player from Assam (after Abu Nechim) to play the IPL.
