Poilapool Nehru College signs MoU with Niramaya Silchar to spread the light of Yoga

Way 2 barak, June 9 : “Yoga education is crucial today — not just for holistic development but also as a pathway to self-reliance,” said Shekhar Chakraborty, Chairman of the Executive Council, Silchar Niramaya – School of Yoga Education. He was speaking at an event at Poilapool Nehru College following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the college and Niramaya.

Mr. Chakraborty noted that the present government is giving priority to yoga education. “A foundation for professional careers in yoga has been established. Various recognized courses have been launched. This is a golden opportunity for students. However, students must avail this facility, and parents must also encourage their children in this direction,” he added.

The MoU was recently signed by Shekhar Chakraborty and Prof. Dr. Anup Kumar Dey on behalf of Niramaya, while Principal Dr. Subhajit Chakraborty, Prof. Dr. Rabindra Roy, and Prof. Dr. Joydeep Dhubi signed for Nehru College. The initiative aims to spread yoga education among students and across the Lakhipur region.

A programme was organized in the college auditorium to mark the MoU signing, chaired by Principal Dr. Subhajit Chakraborty. Chief Guest Dr. Sunil Sharma, Assistant Professor, Centre for Yoga Wellness & Integrated Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan, termed the college’s initiative “far-reaching.” He said the college can now collaborate with Niramaya — recognized by the Ministry of AYUSH, Yoga Certification Board, and IYA — to launch professional and awareness-oriented courses. “This partnership can take yoga education to a new dimension,” Dr. Sharma added.

Principal Dr. Subhajit Chakraborty outlined various plans for yoga education and urged students to embrace yoga as a daily practice. “This initiative is primarily for the benefit of students. They must make the most of this opportunity,” he said.

On the occasion, Niramaya presented a Yoga Utsav Smarak to the college. The college also felicitated Niramaya officials and the chief guest. Dr. Rabindra Roy of the Bengali Department, Dr. Joydeep Dhubi of the Hindi Department, Niramaya’s Chief Coordinator and Legacy Person Yogacharya Rahul, and students were present during the MoU signing.

Notably, Silchar Niramaya School of Yoga Education observes Yoga Chetana Mahotsav every year ahead of International Day of Yoga on June 21. As part of this year’s programme, Niramaya is conducting over 100 events from March 8 to June 30 — including awareness drives, workshops, special sessions for women, and joint initiatives with educational institutions to promote yoga education. The MoU with Nehru College is a key part of this festival series.
