One dead in Agartala blast; State govt. orders probe

way2barak, June 27: The Tripura Government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the cause of the massive explosion at a multi-storey residential complex in Ramnagar, Agartala, after the lone critically injured victim, Subhrajit Choudhuri, succumbed to his injuries.

Subhrajit Choudhuri, a young resident of Ker Choumuhani area in Agartala and an employee of ‘SIP Abacus’, breathed his last on Saturday morning at GBP Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. He had sustained severe burn injuries after a powerful blast took place inside a flat at Ramnagar Road No. 4 on June 25 around 12:30 pm.

Following the incident, the State Government, through the Urban Development Department, issued an order on June 26 announcing an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the explosion. The committee has been directed to submit its report to the government within seven days.

The inquiry committee will be headed by the Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Government of Tripura, as Chairman. Other members of the committee include the Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Municipal Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, and Chief Engineer of PWD (Buildings).

The committee will examine the reasons behind the blast, assess the circumstances surrounding the incident, and identify possible lapses, if any.

The death of Subhrajit Choudhuri has created a wave of grief among his family members, colleagues, and residents of the locality. The incident has also raised concerns regarding safety measures in residential buildings and workplaces in the city.
