Silchar Cancer Centre ushers in a new era with state-of-the-art PET-CT facility

way2barak, February 19: -In a landmark achievement for healthcare in the Barak Valley, the Silchar Cancer Centre, a unit of Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF)has inaugurated its advanced PET-CT facility, promising a significant leap in cancer diagnosis and treatment. The event, held amidst a distinguished gathering, marked a pivotal moment in the region’s ongoing battle against cancer.

The inauguration commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Dr. (Maj Gen) Jai Prakash Prasad, Chief Operating Officer of ACCF, and Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Principal & Chief Superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Their presence, along with other esteemed dignitaries, underscored the importance of this cutting-edge addition to the healthcare infrastructure.

Following the ceremonial inauguration, setting the tone for an insightful and inspiring event. Dr. Biswajit Ghosh, Medical Superintendent of Silchar Cancer Centre, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, acknowledging the collective efforts that led to the realization of this facility. His speech set the stage for an engaging discourse on the transformative impact of PET-CT technology.

Dr. Indranil Sinha, Senior Nuclear Medicine Consultant, provided a compelling overview of the history and evolution of PET-CT, emphasizing its vital role in accurate cancer diagnostics. His address shed light on how this advanced imaging technology enhances early detection, staging, and monitoring of cancer, ultimately leading to better treatment outcomes.

In his keynote address,Dr. Jai Prakash Prasad, reinforced the significance of PET-CT in modern oncology, highlighting how this facility would bridge a critical gap in cancer care for the people of the region. He expressed confidence that the new installation would bring world-class diagnostic services closer to home for thousands of patients.

Adding to the discourse,the Principal of SMC&H, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta stressed the need for continuous advancements in medical technology to improve healthcare services. He commended the collaborative efforts of ACCF, the Assam Government, and Tata Trusts in making this facility a reality. The initiative also drew praise from Assistant Commissioner cum Executive Magistrate,Junali Devi, Branch Officer (Health) of Cachar District Administration, who described it as a game-changer for the region’s healthcare landscape. She extended heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the project.

Prominent personalities from various sectors lent their voices to the occasion, including Rupom Saha, President of BJP-Cachar, and Dr. Sujit Nandi Purkayastha, Former Principal of SMCH. The event also witnessed participation from key organizations, including Departmental Heads of SMCH, Principal of Dental College, Principal of Nursing College, members from ITA & TAI, representatives of Assam Rifles, as well as Lions Club of Silchar Central, Lions Club of Silchar Lioness, and Thousand Sayantans, demonstrating widespread support for the initiative.

The program concluded on a note of gratitude, with Dr. Debosmita Das delivering a heartfelt vote of thanks, recognizing the dedication and contributions of all involved in making this milestone possible.
