Cachar DC reviews final preparations for 80th Independence Day celebrations

way2barak, August 11:– Cachar district commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the new conference hall of DC’S office in Silchar on Tuesday to take stock of preparations for the celebration of the 80th Independence Day in the district, with particular focus on security arrangements, civic amenities, ceremonial programmes, public facilities and coordination among various departments and agencies.

The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner Rajib Roy,  Additional District Commissioners, Devid Kumar Bora, Manojyoti Kutum, Roktim Baruah, CEO Cachar Zilla Parishad, Dorothy Suchiyang and senior officials representing the district administration, security agencies, municipal authorities and various line departments.

The District Commissioner reviewed the different components of the Independence Day arrangements and assessed the preparedness of the concerned departments ahead of the August 15 celebrations.

During the meeting, detailed arrangements for the ceremonial flag hoisting programme at the DSA Ground were reviewed. Security preparedness received particular attention, with discussions focusing on comprehensive security coverage along the VIP route, including CCTV surveillance and deployment of security personnel at high-rise buildings overlooking the route. The meeting also reviewed coordinated patrolling arrangements involving the Army, CRPF, BSF and Assam Police battalions to ensure effective security management during the celebrations.

The District Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to undertake cleanliness drives across all municipal areas and ensure that the surroundings of the programme venue, important public places and designated routes remain clean and orderly. Arrangements for proper barricading and sanitisation of the DSA Ground and VIP route were also reviewed. The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the celebrations so that all scheduled programmes can be conducted smoothly.

Security and preparedness measures at government and institutional premises were also discussed, directions were also issued for the engagement of night watchmen at all departmental offices and educational institutions.

Meanwhile, the Cachar administration is also taking steps to ensure that essential public facilities remain available during the celebrations and that adequate arrangements are made at the venue and along the movement routes.

The meeting further reviewed arrangements for medical facilities, drinking water and distribution of food packets for participants and others associated with the Independence Day programme. The illumination of important government buildings, including the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar, and Circuit House was also discussed. Fire safety arrangements were reviewed as part of the overall preparedness, with the concerned authorities directed to ensure that necessary safety measures are put in place before the celebrations.

Meanwhile, the District Commissioner also took stock of the progress of the ongoing ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Cachar, under which a series of patriotic and community-oriented programmes are being organised across the district. The campaign has already witnessed the successful conduct of a Tiranga Bike Rally on August 9 besides cleanliness drives and school-level art, essay and debate competitions being held from August 10 to 14 across government and private educational institutions.

It is worth mentioning that the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has brought together government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and community organisations through a range of activities designed to encourage public participation in the Independence Day celebrations. Preparations for the forthcoming Tiranga Rally were also reviewed during the meeting. The rally is scheduled to proceed from the DSA Ground to Gandhi Bagh Park bringing together participants from different sections of society as part of the ongoing campaign.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the administration is simultaneously preparing for the observance of ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ on August 14 with programmes planned to remember the suffering, displacement and sacrifices associated with the Partition of India. The observance will form an important part of the district’s programmes in the run-up to Independence Day.

The review meeting also focused on the need for effective coordination between the civil administration, police, municipal bodies, security agencies and other departments during the final days leading up to Independence Day. The District Commissioner directed all departments to complete their assigned responsibilities within the stipulated time and maintain close coordination at the field level so that any gaps in preparedness can be addressed well in advance.

 Preparations have been intensified across the district to ensure that the Independence Day celebrations are conducted in a smooth, safe and organised manner. Alongside the official ceremonial programme, the ongoing ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is providing opportunities for students, government institutions, local bodies and citizens to participate in activities centred on the national flag and the spirit of Independence.

The District Commissioner called upon all concerned departments and agencies to remain closely coordinated during the final phase of preparations and ensure that every assigned responsibility is completed within the scheduled timeline, enabling citizens to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in a safe and orderly environment.
