অদ্বৈত অধিবিদ্যা ও সৃষ্টি তত্ত্ব নিয়ে ওয়েবিনার আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১৭ আগস্ট : স্বাধীনতা দিবস উদযাপনের অঙ্গ হিসেবে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সেন্টার ফর ইন্ডিয়ান নলেজ সিস্টেমসের উদ্যোগে এক ওয়েবিনারের আয়োজন করা হয়। বিষয় ছিল ‘অদ্বৈত অধিবিদ্যা ও সৃষ্টি তত্ত্ব’। এতে মুখ্য বক্তা হিসেবে অংশ নেন নিউইয়র্কের স্টনি ব্রুক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক স্থানেশ্বর টিমলসিনা। এই ওয়েবিনারে সমন্বয়ক হিসেবে ছিলেন দর্শন বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক ড. মুনমুন চক্রবর্তী।

মুখ্য বক্তা অধ্যাপক টিমলসিনা অদ্বৈত বেদান্তে শংকরের মতবাদ ও সৃষ্টি তত্ত্বের ওপর গভীর ও সূক্ষ্ম বিশ্লেষণ করেন। তিনি বলেন, শংকরের মতবাদ কখনও এর মান্যতা দেয়নি যে ব্রহ্ম রূপান্তরের মধ্য দিয়ে বিশ্বে পরিণত হয়। শংকর বাস্তববাদী দার্শনিকদের মতো কার্যকারণ নিয়ে একইভাবে আলোচনা করেন না। তাঁর কাছে কার্যকারণ এক অস্থায়ী সরঞ্জাম, যা আপাত জগত ব্যাখ্যা করার জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়।

অধ্যাপক টিমলসিনা পাত্র ও স্থান, সোনা ও অলংকার, মরীচিকা ইত্যাদি চিত্র ব্যবহার করে শংকরের বিস্ময়কর বিশ্বের বর্ণনা করেন। তিনি যুক্তি দিয়ে বলেন, শংকর কীভাবে মৌলিক বাস্তবতার সারমর্ম নিয়ে কোনও প্রশ্ন না তুলেই সম্বন্ধযুক্ত বিশ্বকে স্বীকার করেন। অধ্যাপক টিমলসিনা বলেন, আজকের বিশ্বায়িত বৌদ্ধিক পরিবেশে বাস্তবতা, উপলব্ধি ও জ্ঞানের নানা প্রশ্নের সমাধানে অদ্বৈত এক শক্তিশালী দার্শনিক কাঠামো প্রদান করে চলেছে।

এলাহাবাদ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক শৈলেন্দ্র কুমার সিং আধুনিক যুগে অদ্বৈতের কার্যকারণের ব্যাখ্যা কীভাবে প্রাসঙ্গিক তা উল্লেখ করে আলোচনাকে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করেন। তিনি শংকরের অন্তর্দৃষ্টির জ্ঞানতাত্ত্বিক গভীরতার বর্ণনা করে বলেন, অদ্বৈতের অভিজ্ঞতা ও চূড়ান্তের মধ্যে পার্থক্য দার্শনিক অনুসন্ধানে আপাত দ্বন্দ্বের সমন্বয় সাধনের এক অনন্য পথ প্রদান করে।

সমাপ্তি ভাষণে সেন্টার ফর ইন্ডিয়ান নলেজ সিস্টেমসের ডিরেক্টর অধ্যাপক এম গঙ্গাভূষণ বিশ্বময় আলোচনার মাধ্যমে ভারতীয় জ্ঞান ব্যবস্থাকে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন। শেষে আয়োজিত হয় প্রাণবন্ত প্রশ্নোত্তর পর্ব। এতে দেশ-বিদেশের অধ্যাপক ও শিক্ষার্থীরা অংশ নেন। ধন্যবাদ সূচক বক্তব্য রাখেন সমন্বয়ক ড. চক্রবর্তী।

Way2barak, August 17 : Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems, Assam University, Silchar hosted a webinar on the theme “Advaita Metaphysics and Creation Theory”. Professor Sthaneshwar Timalsina, an eminent scholar currently based at Stony Brook University, New York, offered a deep and nuanced analysis of Śaṅkara’s treatment of causality and creation theory in Advaita Vedānta. Prof. Timalsina emphasized that Śaṅkara’s doctrine rejects the idea that Brahman undergoes transformation to become the world. Śaṅkara does not engage with causality in the same manner as realist philosophers. For him, causality is only a provisional tool, used to explain the apparent world.

He explains Śaṅkara’s account of the phenomenal world using the illustrations like a pot and space, gold and ornaments, mirage etc. He argues how Śaṅkara admits the relational world without questioning the essence of the foundational reality. In this regard, the speaker refers to several traditional texts and eminent Advaita scholars who try to defend Śaṅkara’s position in terms of proposing some creation theories like Ajātivāda, Avaccheda vada, Ābhāsavāda and Pratibimbavāda. Professor Timalsina concluded that Advaita continues to offer a robust philosophical framework for addressing questions of reality, perception, and knowledge in today’s globalized intellectual environment.

Dr. Shailendra Kumar Singh, the discussant from the University of Allahabad, enriched the deliberation by pointing out how Advaita’s interpretation of causality remains relevant in the modern age. He highlighted the epistemological depth of Śaṅkara’s insights and stressed that Advaita’s distinction between the empirical and the ultimate provides a unique way to reconcile apparent contradictions in philosophical inquiry. Professor Gangabhushan M. Molankal, Director, CIKS, AUS in his concluding reflections, praised the clarity and depth of the speaker and the meaningful inputs of Dr. Singh. He reiterated the importance of bringing Indian Knowledge Systems into dialogue with contemporary global scholarship.

The session concluded with an engaging and vibrant Q&A segment where scholars and students across India and abroad participated. Prof. Timalsina restated the need for further research in pre-Śaṅkara Advaita and encouraged interdisciplinary inquiry. Finally, the coordinator of the Webinar, Dr. Munmun Chakraborty expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to the speaker and discussant for this illuminating deliberation and also thanked all the participants for their enthusiastic and active participation.
