Minister Nandita Gorlosa launches skill development program and aadhaar centre in Silchar
way2barak, August 18: In a landmark move to empower and rehabilitate inmates, Minister Nandita Gorlosa, alongside Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahato, DSP (SB) Hemen Das, and Assistant Commissioner Praveen Mahato, inaugurated the “Karagar Se Karigar” skill development program at Silchar Jail on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day. This initiative aims to provide vocational training to inmates across Assam, helping them reintegrate into society with dignity and purpose.
It needs to be mentioned here that the “Karagar Se Karigar” program, which will be implemented in 29 jails across the state, is set to transform the lives of inmates at Silchar Jail through short-term training courses in tailoring, domestic data entry operations, hand-held device maintenance, and hand embroidery. This initiative is designed not only to equip inmates with practical skills but also to connect them with potential employers, offering a pathway to a new beginning.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Gorlosa highlighted the transformative power of skill development in the rehabilitation process.
“This initiative is about more than just training; it’s about hope, opportunity, and the possibility of a brighter future for those who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law,” she stated, underscoring the program’s role in offering a second chance at life.
Following the jail event, Minister Gorlosa proceeded to Silchar Medical College & Hospital, where she inaugurated a new Aadhaar center. The center’s first Aadhaar card was generated for a newborn baby, symbolizing the assurance of a secure identity from the very start of life. This facility is expected to benefit not only newborns but also the general public, ensuring widespread access to this essential identity document.
Later, minister Gorlosa also met with Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Principal of SMCH, and engaged in a discussion with junior doctors at the hospital, addressing their concerns and reaffirming her commitment to enhancing the healthcare system in the region.
It is pertinent to mention that the these initiatives, led by Minister Nandita Gorlosa and supported by the Cachar district administration, reflect ongoing efforts to uplift lives and drive development within the community. By providing opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their circumstances, these programs aim to foster growth and ensure that everyone has the chance to thrive.
