দুস্থদের সঙ্গে আশ্বাস ও ইচ্ছেডানার বর্ষবরণ
Ichhedana & Aswash became Santa Claus for deprived children on New Year’s eve

৩ জানুয়ারি : ওদের দিন কাটে সংসারের বোঝা টেনে। কেউ রাস্তায় রাস্তায় বেলুন বিক্রি করেন, আবার কেউ ঠেলা চালান, কারও দিন কাটে রাস্তার আবর্জনা খুটিয়ে। টিম ইচ্ছেডানা ও আশ্বাস এনজিও-র পক্ষে ৩১ ডিসেম্বরের সন্ধ্যা ছিল তাদের জন্য।

শিলচরের এক অভিজাত রেস্তোরায় খাওয়া দাওয়া, কেক কাটা, ওদের উপহার দেওয়া, নাচ, গান — সব মিলিয়ে তুমুল হই-হুল্লোড় করলেন এই দুই সংগঠনের সদস্যরা। ইচ্ছেডানার সভানেত্রী শর্মিষ্ঠা দেব বলেন, নিজের চারপাশ ভালো থাকলে নিজেও ভালো থাকা যায়। আর এই শিশুদের সঙ্গে এমন একটি সন্ধ্যা কাটাতে পেরে খুব ভালো লাগছে।

আশ্বাসের পক্ষে অরূন্ধতী গুপ্ত বলেন, ভবিষ্যতে এই শিশুদের আনন্দ দিতে এরকম অনেক কিছু করার ইচ্ছে রয়েছে। ওইদিন উপস্থিত ছিলেন ইন্দ্রানী সাহা, প্রানেশ নাথ, মহুল মিত্র, রাজনন্দিনী মজুমদার, অর্জুন পাল, ঋষভ পুরকায়স্থ, রোহিত দাস, শুভদীপ দাম প্রমুখ। ইচ্ছেডানার পক্ষ থেকে এ দিন রাস্তার অসহায় মানুষকে কম্বল বিতরণ করাও হয়।

January 3: They usually pass their days bearing the burden of their family. When others of their same age immerse in merry-making under the shade of their earning parents in their cosy home, these children bear the burden of their family at such a tender age. Some sell balloons roaming around the streets, others pull handcarts while some of them earn their livelihood by rag-picking. It was with these underprivileged children that Team Ichhedana and Ashwas NGO spent the New Year’s eve.

The evening of 31 December, 2018 was such a rare moment in the lives of these children when they got the opportunity to dine items of delicacy in an aristocratic restaurant, which in reality is a distant utopia even in their wild dreams. They were rejoicing, dancing, singing, cutting a cake. It was moment of dream come true for them. They were even given gifts.

President of Ichhedana Sharmistha Deb said, “One can remain well, when the surrounding is well.” She felt honoured and blessed to be able to pass an evening with these children. Arundhuti Gupta on behalf of Ashwas said that they have more plans up their sleeves for these children which they would take up in the near future. Others who spent this lovely evening with these children were Indrani Saha, Mohul Mitra, Pranesh Nath, Rajnandini Majumdar, Arjun Paul, Hrishav Purkayastha, Rohit Das and Shuvadeep Dam. Team Ichhedana also distributed blankets among the needy people in the streets of Silchar.

Who says Santa Claus is a mythological character? Who says Santa Claus exists only in fables? Santa Claus do exist in all those who offers smile in the face of little children. Long live Santa Claus…..Let the jingle bells keep ringing….
